Racing drivetrain leader RAM Clutches has announced a new single-disc clutch system aimed at stick-shift racing classes where a smaller and shorter setup is a mechanical requirement.
RAM’s new single-disc, sintered iron clutch system is a 10-inch diameter package (10-inch ring and disc) based around a strong billet cover design. The overall height is 1/4-inch shorter than RAM 11-inch sintered iron versions, and will fit smaller flywheels such as Chrysler 130-tooth and Ford 157-tooth.
‘We are very excited to now have this option for our current and future customers,” says RAM Clutches’s Mike Norcia. “Now we can cover a host of new applications and provide a much more stable platform for racers to base their stick-shift programs around. With multiple base pressures possible, and a lever design that is fairly neutral for counterweight, adjustability is greatly increased.”
According to Norcia, the pressure ring features segmented heat shields, which allow for more expansion and contraction due to heating of the clutch without distorting or warping. The pressure ring drives off six stands mounted to the flywheel rather than the cover, for increased strength and capacity. This unique design also allows for easy upgrading to dual disc by changing stand and bolt lengths.
“This clutch is aimed at all stick-shift racing classes under about 1,000 horsepower, and specifically will allow fitment in smaller bellhousings that we could not previously fit in,” Norcia explains.
