With the help of some friendly factory competition, we’ve been recently brought back to the historic roots of drag racing. How so you might ask? Back in the day the phrase, “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” wasn’t just a catch phrase, it was reality. If someone took notice of what was continually bringing home the trophies on the track, they’d go out to their local dealer and pick one up for themselves. Luckily Ford and Chrysler have obliged to popular demand and brought the factory muscle car wars to the 1320 with the Cobra Jet Mustang and Drag Pak Challenger. While the debate in regards to which is the better car could go on forever, we’ve got some interesting news on the Mopar side this week.

Many have been struggling with the foreign territory that the modern Challenger is, and while we’re certain the 6.1 Hemi motor isn’t what’s holding these cars back in the least bit, the car has presented itself as seemingly a little under-gunned to its Ford counterpart. Well it’s time to take notice to one man that’s surely gotten it figured out, at an LX-platform Shootout in Bradenton one ’09 Drag Pak put down a solid 9.71 at 137 mph, ultimately becoming the fastest Drag Pak Challenger to date. Surpassing the performance of legendary names such as Jeg Coughlin in the same car is an impressive feat. Check out some video below, or read Doug’s post on Moparts.

The car was at fully legal A/SA weight even though it wasn’t at an NHRA race. Special thanks goes out to Indy cylinder head for their work in the motor department, as well as Matt Wright at BRC Racecraft for getting it done in the traction department. While the run is impressive, it’ll take consistency to put some wins in the books – look out for this Drag Pak Challenger come raceday.
