Tom Kempf knows what it takes to put an LSX powered car in the winner’s circle at any given event. Even more importantly, he knows what it takes to have the car that can get him there. Just like any racer, he’s looking to take a shot at the win every time he lines up against the competition. Tom drove the good old ‘Red Rocket’ Camaro to a successful LSX Shootout win back in ’07, and has decided to take on an all new Outlaw Drag Radial build to take his title back.
For those that’d like to, you can follow pictures of the buildup over on Stenod Performance‘s website as the work on their 25.3 Chassis continues.
What drag car can’t be improved with a good nickname? For this wicked Pontiac Firebird Formula, Tom decided “The Money Shot” was fitting. We won’t only get to see the car at the Shootout however, as Tom also plans to make some appearances at Milan Dragway as well as various ORTC events – with payouts as high as 20 grand like at their February race. It’ll bring a lot of heavy hitting competition, but that’s the fun part, right?
The ‘meat and potatoes’ of this build will start off with a 454 C.I. LSX Tall Deck engine built by Billy Briggs Racing Engines backed up by a Rossler TH210 with a Neil Chance Converter, and being force-fed by a PT-114mm single turbo. Keeping control of the fuel injection setup will be the FAST XFI system. Be sure to check back for updates when this Bird is ready to roll, as well as when it hits the track in hopes of taking home the win, Kempf should be a serious contender with this new ride.
