You wouldn't know that is 440 cubic inches under the hood would you?

Joe Wheeler may be most known for his 1979 Mustang Pace Car that he campaigned around the Michigan area. The Pace Car was outfitted with a 632 Chevy and three foggers, but he felt that they were falling behind the competition with all of the blown and turbocharged cars competing across the country. So the 79 Mustang was sold and new car was picked up with new intentions for the 2010 season. Look out for Joe and his crew as they hit the road with “Little Grey” in search of the fastest 275 radial cars in the country.

“Little Grey” started life as a 1989 Mustang that was outfitted with a 25.5 chassis and most recently was updated and mini tubbed by Pro Racecraft Engineering. Under the hood lies 440 cubic inches of small block Ford packed inside of a Dart block with Victor 15 degree heads on top. The engine was built by MCRP Race Engines and packed full of the best parts including GRP rods and Diamond pistons. Steve Johnson and Induction Solutions provided the motivation in the form of a fogger system and three spray bar plate. Ultimate Converter Concepts built the 9″ converter to go with a powerglide transmission which will make the power a bit easier to handle on the 275 tires.

Pretty soon you will see Joe hitting the track in some local 275 races as well as true ten five events. Also he wants to be able to compete in NMRA Drag Radial as well as NMCA Extreme Street. The ultimate goal is to head south to run with the best of the best at the ORTC 275 races and join in the Pritchett Brothers Ultimate Outlaw Shootout series. Wheeler has already been out testing at Milan Dragway this past weekend and the car is beautiful and I am sure it will run just as good as it looks.
