DIXON, HAGAN, COUGHLIN, HINES SCORE TOP HONORS AT NHRA HOUSTON

This was Matt Hagan’s first Funny Car win and Larry Dixon’s 50th in Top Fuel.  Those achievements highlighted a spectacular and wild race day at the 23rd annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil. Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Andrew Hines earned respective wins in Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.

NHRA Full Throttle Series – Houston: Coverage recaps on Dragzine.com. Racers were met with perfect spring weather on race day at the fifth stop on the Full Throttle tour in Houston, as Matt Hagan grabbed his first Funny Car title and Jeg Coughlin Jr. returned to championship form.  All while Larry Dixon and Andrew Hines also grabbed wins in their respective categories. MMPSA “Rumble at the Rock”: The newly-formed Mountain Motor Pro Stock Association kicked off it’s inaugural event as an in independent organization with “Rumble at the Rock” as part of the Patriot Performance Outlaw Civil Wars.  Cary Goforth grabbed the top qualifying position with a 6.258 at 220.84 MPH – just .008 short of the world record – and rode that momentum all the way to the winner’s circle where he would oust Bob Bertsch with a come-from-behind 6.31 to 6.36 count. IHRA Pro-Am Divisional at Piemont Dragway: Piemont Dragway in Greensboro, NC was the site of this weekends IHRA Division 9 Pro-Am Tour event. In Top Dragster, Steve Estes defeated a red-lighting Mike Gross with a dead-on 4.565, and in Top Sportsman, Mark Holcomb grabbed the win after Gary Bingham left just .002 to quick.  For full results, check out IHRA.com and DragRaceCentral.com.
