Steve Matusek’s Aeromotive 2010 Mustang Making Good Progress

As the Roush/Yates organization expands and makes their move to the sport of drag racing, they’ve got themselves set up with some killer cars and drivers. After their new-found partnership with the Aeromotive team, the work commenced on a new 2010 Mustang package for Steve Matusek after the sale of their old modular ride.

No doubt the first renderings looked killer, but over on Aeromotive’s Facebook Page we found some updated pictures of the work progress on this sleek 2010 body. You can check out the first official build announcement and renderings here.

It might not look like much, but it’s a far cry from where they previously were with just a body sitting on the floor. The bulk of the chassis is completed, as well as the 500 C.I.D. RYE powerplant and the Liberty 5 speed transmission resting in place for mock-up. Once the rear end is all buttoned up, this long awaited project will finally be rolling – but there’s still plenty of work left, though Matusek plans to have the car on track by the time this summer rolls around (Chassis-builder for this car Larry Larson predicts it’ll be ready by late June).

This Mustang’s primary role will be running in the revamped NHRA Pro Mod class, but various trips to the NMCA events to run in the Pro Street class are expected, and the possibility to run a few ADRL events is still lingering. Matusek did a lot with a little with the old 323″ Modular ‘Stang he formerly drove, we can’t wait to see what he can do with an extra 177 Cubic Inches and more turbo – an estimated 800 horsepower increase from their old setup. Another unique tidbit on this car is the use of zoomies on a turbo car, constructed from one piece of metal on each side in hopes of adding the needed down-force on the front-end. It’s a bit of an unconventional idea but it should work if executed properly.

One thing’s for sure, we can’t wait to see Steve out there bangin’ gears in his new ride.
