I think most of us can agree – even those who are diehard Ford and Chevrolet fanatics – that there aren’t near enough small tire, classic Mopar muscle cars out there competing on the dragstrips today. These old cars, including icons such as the Duster, Challenger, Dart, Barracuda, among others, make some exceptionally badass-looking stock suspension, limited tire race cars. In conversation, many tend to agree that they look far better with a small radial or true 10.5 tire underneath than a large slick commonly seen on Super Pro-style cars.
Chesterfield Township, Michigan’s John Burdine is steadily making progress on his Plymouth Duster that is exactly that – riding on a set of drag radial tires that Burdine exclaims will be the “drag radial poser of the world.” John has stretched the fenders of the Duster and done some other assorted body work, and has lowered the ride height, giving it that really menacing stance that we’ve come to expect with these Chrysler’s. It also sports a new 8-inch Harwood cowl hood scoop that may be a
little tall for some folks’ taste but really gives it a great, powerful look. The drag radials are wrapped around 15”x12” Billet Specialties Comp 5 beadlock wheels. The car has run as quick as 9.11 at 147 MPH on ET Streets. Regardless of how it runs though, John has a real looker on his hands here.
