Funky, weird, obscure, or even awesome are just a few words to describe Scott Stanger’s unique choice for a 7-second strip warrior. While there aren’t many real Fiat parts on Stanger’s ’48, the look, style, and the drivetrain choice is true to what it would’ve been back in the day, with a few choice improvements that modern race car technology has given us.

Stanger Family racing is home to a bunch of other awesome old school rides. Be sure to check them out on their website.

Back in the 80’s Scott was having boatloads of fun racing his lightly modified ’56 F100, but as time went on, he yearned for something a bit more on the wild side.  He found it when his friend spotted a classified ad for a drag racing-equipped Fiat – he went and purchased it almost instantly. It took a long time to get it figured out and down the 1/4 in the low 11’s, but Scott loved every minute of it. After the 327 had some issues and the car was tucked away for years, an injected 355″ SBC built by Mike Boyd that helped Scott move his way up to a 9.30 at 135 MPH. The car was extremely inconsistent, but Scott still assures us that it was a blast.

So the car lays idle for a few more years, then Scott saved up enough money to come back with a vengeance with an all-new 1100+ Horsepower Supercharged 357″ SBC, pushing out enough power that Scott learned quickly the expensive way that a World Motown block was needed. Back in the saddle again for 2010, Scott brought the car out to Firebird Raceway and got a round of applause after his fan-stunning runs – a 7.89 at 173 mph backed up by a 7.86 with the same mph. Even the crew working the Oldies weekend thought this was one of the coolest cars on the grounds and gave it some extra attention in the Firebird Online Racer Spotlight.

Nostalgia racing is just flatout cool, and the “Bad Manners” Fiat is one of the best examples of nostalgia perfection.
