Combining the advent of the internet and the natural competitiveness within the DNA of all human beings, it’s no surprise that the concept of fantasy leagues has become part of our daily culture. From to football to baseball, hockey to auto racing, if it can be scored, someone has a league. ESPN dedicates an entire 30 minutes show to fantasy drafts and leagues, and there’s even a sitcom based around a group of guys in a fantasy league.

During the 2011 season, NHRA drag racing fans will have the opportunity to contest a fantasy league of their own as our friends at the AIRAID performance intake company host the AIRAID Fantasy Drag Racing Game.

Entry for the NHRA fantasy league is just $10, with all proceeds going to the Wally Parks Motorsports Museum. Entrants will choose eight starters for every 2011 NHRA national event and points will be scored according to race results in the five professional categories (Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Pro Modified) and weekly winners will be counted toward quarterly championships and ultimately, the Countdown Championship. Competitors can also create their own private leagues for family, co-workers, car clubs, Facebook friends, and others.

The AIRAID Fantasy Drag Racing game follows each NHRA national event, and players must select their eight drivers by 12:00 AM on the Friday morning of each race. Contestants are required to select at least one driver per scheduled class per national event. Once a single driver per class is selected, additional drivers must be chosen to fill out the rest of the eight driver roster.

The league will be divided into quarterly games and a Countdown Championship that coincides with the fourth quarter. To qualify for the Countdown, players must have chosen a race winner in any class for any national event during the first three quarters.
