In January, we shared with you Joey Martin and the Russell Racing Teams’ plans for an all-new Lowmad ’55 Chevrolet Nomad Pro Modified after retiring the original that had become such an icon in the doorslammer world. The new car would carry the same Nomad body and, of course, the same Lowmad moniker, albeit with a fresh new paint scheme that still incorporated a little yellow in the color pallet. But most importantly, the car would be even lighter than its predecessor and feature all the newest bells and whistles to make it competitive in the world of ADRL Pro Extreme where 3.50’s are all but the norm today.

Joey and company recently put the finishing touches on the new machine at his own Joey Martin Race Cars and loaded the spankin’ new Lowmad into the trailer to get some testing in at Montgomery Motorsports Park in Alabama prior to the ADRL opener in Houston in two weeks.

On Saturday, Joey and the new Lowmad reeled off a stout 3.66 at just 203.48 MPH, resetting the track record and putting his crew and the crowd in attendance into a frenzy. The run came with an impressive .902 60-foot clocking to boot, proving the new piece has got some serious potential to run a the front against the high dollar teams and certainly capable of blasting right into national record territory. And boy, does it ever look good doing it.
