Riverside, California based K&N Filters recently announced that they had signed fellow Californian Katie Sullivan in her Pro Stock Motorcycle efforts for 2011, allowing she and her Sullivan Racing Team to compete in the full 16-race NHRA Full Throttle tour schedule.
Johnny Jump, K&N’s Brand Manager for the Powersports Division is quoted as saying, “I like to work with racers who are going somewhere. Katie has more drive and energy and is putting more into her career and this sport than many of the veterans out there. It makes me proud to support someone like her. We wish her the best this year, and we are going to do whatever we can to get her to the starting line. Gentlemen look out, and start your engines!”
At the tender age of 18, “Kalifornia Katie” as she’s known, became the youngest female to ever qualify for an NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle race and the seventh female to ever make a raceday field.
It still gives me chills when I think about having a big name like K&N onboard with my team. I am 20-years-old and in my third year of racing Pro Stock, and to have K&N be a part of that, and helping me to be the best seems surreal. I am ecstatic to have K&N’s support.”
During her debut race with K&N Filters onboard at this past weekends’ NHRA Tire Kingdom Gatornationals in Gainesville, Katie made her way into the quickest field in history in the 15th slot with a 6.990 effort during Saturday’s third session. During Sunday’s opening round of eliminations, she was paired with good friend and eventual winner Eddie Krawiec and got a big advantage out of the gate, but couldn’t fend off the hard-charging Harley Davidson.
“I want to give a huge thanks to K&N filters, I think Gainesville was a great way to kick off our new partnership. I look forward to such exciting things ahead for both of us.” Sullivan said. “I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come for this team, all I have to say is look out racing world, because we are taking this K&N Filters Suzuki to the top.”
