For some time now, interested followers and keyboard crew chiefs have wondered aloud when and if the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), the sports premiere doorslammer drag racing organization, would add another eliminator to its lineup. But this weekend, that question may come one step closer to being answered.

At this weekend’s Penske Truck Leasing Inaugural Northeast Drags at Pennsylvania’s Maple Grove Raceway, a special four-car Top Sportsman exhibition will be contested on both Friday and Saturday of the event. The exhibition will feature drivers Tyler Hard, Marco Abruzzi, Glen Butcher, and Ronnie Proctor, all of whom are considered among the best in the intense doorslammer bracket racing category.

“We’re thrilled to have these top sportsman competitors coming to Maple Grove Raceway,” ADRL Director of Competition Tom Grooms said. “Many of our drivers came up through the Top Sportsman ranks and it’s only natural for our organization to expand to get back to the grassroots of our sport. The ADRL is responding to the wishes of the fans as well as the racing community with a class and format that is an excellent fit to our fast and exciting show.”

While the Top Sportsman exhibition is presently slated for inclusion only at the Maple Grove event this weekend, ADRL officials indicate that this special appearance could set the stage for adding a new ADRL category in the future.

“There are literally hundreds of these cars sitting in shops looking for a place to race, and the ADRL may be the place to provide them an opportunity to race and compete,” Grooms said. “Top Sportsman provides great racing and I’m sure ADRL fans will love the diversity it brings to our program.”
