Joshua Hernandez will have a new and very sleek look this weekend at the Kansas National Guard Independence Drags VI at Heartland Park Topeka as he unveils a brand new Pro Extreme Corvette built by Murk McKinney, regarded as one of the best Top Fuel and Funny Car chassis builders in the industry.

The B1 Racing team tested the new C5 Corvette that features some Funny Car-like spoiler side panels at Rockingham Dragway, posting some stellar 60-foot clockings in the process. According to Hernandez, the car responded as they had expected and hope to parlay that into solid full pull performances this weekend in Topeka.

“Everything we wanted to test, we tested and got a good response,” Hernandez told ADRL.us. “It’s all real positive and it built some enthusiasm and confidence. This is just a really cool car and I can’t say enough about the craftsmanship of it.”

Hernandez, a former series champion in the Pro Extreme division, has struggled mightily this season, having not won a single round of competition in the first three events and currently finding himself 14th in points, 948 behind leader Jason Hamstra and with a sizable hole to dig himself out of if he hopes to contend for the championship at years end.

Hernandez has a history of strong performances when debuting a new race car or new look, and call it superstition or great preparation, the B1 team hopes that trend continues beginning Friday in Topeka.

“I think we’re really going to test the theory,” Hernandez said. “We just need to get back to where we need to be a get some win lights on the scoreboard.”
