The American Drag Racing League has released its official rulebook for the 2012 racing season, which will take effect at the season opening Dragpalooza VIII at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, March 30-31. “We spent a great deal of time coming up with our rulebook for the 2012 racing season with the goal of providing the safest and most competitive racing experience for the ADRL’s talented competitors,” ADRL Director of Competition Tom Grooms said. “With the rule additions and modifications we have instituted, there has been a premium placed on safety and entertainment value.”

“Competitor safety is our paramount concern when coming up with a rulebook and there were a number of rules and policies we have instituted for the 2012 season with each team’s safety as our primary concern,” ADRL Director of Technical Services Chris Bell said.

Among the additions made in the name of safety include the requirement of Electrimotion safety shutoff devices in all categories but Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Pro Junior Dragster, SFI 7.1 lower engine containment systems for all doorslammer categories, and formed foam drivers seats. The ADRL is also now mandating that all race cars be professionally finished, [painted, lettered, numbered, and decaled to improve the fan experience.
