After months of speculation on who would become the first radial tire racer in the 4.20’s, the distinction went to one Kenny Hubbard out of Montgomery, Texas driving Wayne Long’s P.S.I. blown 2002 Camaro at Holly Springs while testing last Friday for the tracks inaugural Outlaw Shootout over the weekend. The car has seen duty in Outlaw 10.5 and True Ten 5 races in Texas and beyond and their runs in the 4.20’s over the weekend in Mississippi mark the best runs to date on any tire. The car is powered by a 481X from Alan Johnson Racing Engines.

The first official 4.2X run was a 4.283 at 179.95 MPH and was then backed up with a shocking 4.267 at 179.50 later that night. After that performance Friday night Hubbard went on to capture the Drag Radial elapsed time record, running a 4.275 at 179.64 in the final qualifying session as the No. 1 qualifier in Patriot Performance True 10.5. Not to be outdone, Kevin Fiscus put the Hurricane Performance twin turbo Mustang on kill, running a 4.278 at 187.27 during the test session Friday, making his run the quickest and fastest for a legal Outlaw Drag Radial car.

Holly Springs runs their own TT5 rules which are similar to the Radial vs. the World regulations at the No Mercy events at SGMP, allowing backhalf 4-link cars to run together with stock suspension cars. On Sunday Hubbard made it to round three where he took a loss to Randy Westmoreland, slowing to a 5.94 to the winning 4.80 at 128 miles per. The final wound up with Steve Jackson and John Kolivas wading through the 32 car field with Kolivas getting a holeshot win as a pair of 4.52’s showed on the boards.
