It was quite a weekend in the NHRA Lucas Oil sportsman ranks for racers carrying the Moser Engineering banner, with a pair of victories and a close runner-up finish at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston.
Moser Engineering’s own Bayou Boyz continued their winning ways in Texas as Britt Cummings drove his dragster to the Super Comp title at the Royal Purple Raceway, pushing fellow heavy-hitter Shannon Brinkley under the 8.90 index to claim the Wally.
In only its fourth time out, Cummings also wheeled his new C/SA Corvette to the final round with hopes of setting the table for a double-up victory, but gave up an .027 to .092 advantage out of the gate to opponent Hagen Gary and broke out by several hundredths attempting to take the stripe.
As a consolation, the Bayou Boyz earned the Best Appearing Car(s) award with their Pontiac Firebird and the new C5 Corvette, which features Moser’s new C5 Rear Sub Frame Assembly for Stock Eliminator-specific vehicles.
Also at Houston, sportsman and big-money bracket racing standout Luke Bogacki drove his brand new Corvette roadster featuring Moser components to its first national event win, as Bogacki took a slight edge at the tree and forced opponent Jeff Lopez under the magic 9.90 number.
In other recent on-track news out of the Moser camp, Cummings family patriarch Larry Cummings drove his SS/BM Chevrolet Cavalier to the Super Stock crown last weekend at the NHRA Division 4 event at the
Texas Motorplex near Dallas over Pete Peery. Cummings nailed a stellar .004 reaction time in the final and came out on the winning end of a double-breakout drag race.
“It’s always great for the Moser Engineering team to get a victory,” said team spokesperson Britt Cummings. “But it’s even more special for Dad to win, especially with his first on the NHRA tour. It would have been icing on the cake to see him and Slate in the final, but it was an incredible win for our team nonetheless.”
