The Throw Down in T-Town, held at the Tulsa Raceway Park smack dab in American’s heartland, has become one of the hottest annual events on the doorslammer calendar and one of the premier events in the midwest, featuring two variations of Pro Modified categories, Outlaw 10.5, True 10.5 Hot Street, and other exciting classes. This is one the racers want to win, and they’ll certainly let it all hang out to do so.

Ace photographer Steven Wilson of Wilson Motorsports Photography was in the house in Tulsa capturing all the exciting action, and was in the right place at the right time to capture the wild ride taken by the nitrous assisted True 10.5 Camaro of Mt. Vernon, Mo.-based racer Jason Brown.

As any good photographer does, Wilson never took his eye or his lens from Brown’s Camaro as it went by and had his shutter finger at the ready as the sharp machine got out in the marbles and into all sorts of trouble before making a crushing impact with the guardrail. In one of the most compelling drag racing images we’ve ever seen, the helmet on Brown’s head can actually be seen turned 90-degrees back toward the camera in one of the images captured directly after the impact. Despite the massive hit, however, Brown walked away from the crash unharmed other than the obligatory soreness he was sure to experience the following morning. Check out the full sequence of the crash after the break.
