Mickey Thompson Tires Monday Morning Race Report
NHRA: Race Wrap-Up here on DRAGZINE. Erica Enders made history on Sunday during the rain-delayed Route 66 Nationals just outside of Chicago when she finally got the best of nemesis Greg Anderson, defeating the reigning champion in a rematch of last year’s Chicago final to become the first-ever female winner in Pro Stock. Jeff Arend scored a popular victory for the DHL team, when he edged Courtney Force in her bid for her first professional win in the Funny Car final. Antron Brown and Andrew Hines, already winners on the season, scored in Top Fuel and Pro Stock Motorcycle, respectively. JEGS Allstars: Three decades and not one team championship for Division 7. That was, until the 2012 edition of the JEGS Allstars, part of the NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, on Saturday. The Pacific Division team broke through for its first title, led by Top Alcohol Dragster winner Chris Demke and Super Comp champ Aaron Kinard. The Division 7 Allstars finished the three-round competition tied with the Southeast Division, but won out with the tie-breaker. Division 2’s Sherman Adcock won in Super Gas to help the Southeast Divisions’ chances, but a final round loss for Mickey Ferro at the hands of Frank Manzo sealed the deal at the conclusion of the rain-delayed affair. IHRA: The IHRA Nitro Jam’s visit to Utah’s Rocky Mountain Raceways, always one of the best attended events all season long, lived up the billing once again with two days of exciting, nitro-burning action, including some of the finest Prostalgia Funny Cars in the nation. Mike Savage took the opening night of nostalgia flopper action, defeating Bob Godfrey in the final round. Casey Grisel, in his Nitro Jam debut, won the Pro Fuel Dragster category, and Tom Padilla took the Fuel Altered crown. On day two, Savage once again powered his way to victory circle, this time downing Jason Rupert in the money round, while Padilla scored another win with a defeat of Ron Hope. Grisel nearly doubled-up on the weekend, but Don St. Arnaud denied him that fortune, rolling to a 5.79 to 5.80 victory. For coverage from Salt Lake City, log on to IHRA.com.
IHRA Division 3: Randy Kelley scored the opening day Top Dragster title at the North Stars Division 3 meet at Kentucky’s Mountain Park Dragway, downing Josh Baker with a tough .007 package in the final round. Fred Sommer had the better light in the Top Sportsman finale and pushed opponent Aaron Glaser under the dial for the victory. Day two’s action saw Josh Epperson drive to the Super Stock crown as P.J. Ballog broke out, Patrick Forster won the Quick Rod final on both ends of the race track, and Pat Martin won a double -breakout affair in Super Rod. Jr. Dragster WCF: The future stars of the sport battled it out all week long for the Western Conference Finals crown at Colorado’s Bandimere Speedway, ultimately concluding on Saturday with a host of worthy champions hoisting the hardware. Zac Bogner took the 16-17 year old crown, as he got off the starting line first and forced Taylor Vetter under the dial. The 15-year old final went much the same, as Nash Keen pushed Justin Bail under the mark, while the 14-year old crown was decided on a red light — Charlie Ruckman’s foul start handing the win to Cody Webber.
