In drag racing, every ounce counts, but safety is the one area where compromise is not an option. Racetech USA is tackling this exact challenge with the launch of its lightest seat range ever: the full-carbon fiber 8119 series drag-race seat. These new seats offer extreme weight reduction while incorporating Racetech’s most advanced safety technology.
The 8119 series is built on Racetech’s proven ergonomic shell architecture but is crafted entirely from premium carbon fiber to optimize both driver fitment and weight savings. The range includes two models: the RT8119HR, which features integrated head restraint bolsters, and the standard RT8119. Both models are incredibly light; the head restraint version (RT8119HR) comes in three sizes and weighs as little as 11.66 pounds, while the standard version (RT8119) is available in two sizes starting at 11.76 pounds.

Racetech’s Managing Director, David Black, said the seats were developed after years of studying the drag racing market. “We’ve closely studied the drag racing market for years and gathered feedback from the most competitive drivers to develop the 8119 range of seats,” Black explained. “These drivers want it all, and we wanted to find a way to deliver that without compromising on the most important competitive advantage – safety.”
That philosophy—that safety is a competitive advantage—is central to the 8119’s design. The company believes a safer driver is a more confident driver, one who can push the car harder. This new 8119 series drag-race seat meets the latest NHRA tech regulations, featuring seven-point harness provisions (including reverse submarine belts), energy-absorbing foam for head, shoulder, and rib support, and an optional back-mounting system for enhanced chassis feel. The new seat was just debuted on the track by development partner Alex Laughlin at the NHRA Nevada Nationals this past weekend.
This new lineup is aimed squarely at classes like Pro Mod, Factory X, and Pro Street, where redistributing every possible pound is important. Racetech has responded to the demand for an ultra-lightweight, no-compromise solution. For drivers looking to shave every last ounce while increasing their confidence behind the wheel, the 8119 series drag-race seat appears to set a new benchmark.
