NHRA: Race Recap and Week One Same Day Coverage from Indianapolis. Tony Schumacher capped a marathon Mac Tools U.S. Nationals that was postponed a week by rainfall from Hurricane Isaac with his ninth Indy win, tying Bob Glidden for the most wins at the “Big Go”. Mike Neff won Funny Car for the second straight year in defeating Tim Wilkerson, Dave Connolly scored his third Indy win with an out-of-nowhere defeat of his teammate Erica Enders in the Pro Stock finale, and Andrew Hines finally shook the Harley curse at Indy, downing Hector Arana for his first triumph in front of the hometown crowd. In Pro Modified, Brad Brand, who wasn’t even entered a week ago and made the field as an alternate, drove Roger Burgess’ R2B2 Corvette to victory over Mike Castellana. ADRL: Race Recap From Memphis. Jason Scruggs took an easy lap to the Pro Extreme crown at his home track, the Memphis International Raceway, on Saturday when his opponent, Brandon Pesz, broke just off the starting line. Scruggs was joined in the winners circle by Bob Rahaim, who overcame the dead-late 3.77 of Doug Reisterer with his 3.83 in the Pro Nitrous final, first-time Extreme 10.5 winner Dennis Sugrue, and Todd Tutterow, who put the Precision Turbo ’70 Duster on the Pro Modified winners list with his victory over Adam Flamholc. NHRA Division 1: Ray Vierheller drove his D/DA to the Competition Eliminator crown Sunday at the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, defeating Frank Aragona in the money round. Lincoln Morehead downed Kent Hanley for the Super Stock hardware, and Bob Broadbent did likewise in his A/S ’69 Camaro for Stock Eliminator honors. NHRA Division 5: Gord Gingles took the Top Alcohol Dragster trophy back to Canada after his win at the Tri-State Raceway Lucas Oil Series meet in Iowa Sunday after he downed Ryan Copeland in the final with a nice 5.48. Kirk Williams won out in Top Alcohol Funny Car in a great final round, his 5.79 edging Dale Brand’s 5.75 on a holeshot. The Competition eliminator final was equally as close, as Pat Nahan took his E/D to the win by just a few feet over Shaun Vincent. Sidnei Frigo (Top Alcohol Dragster) and Kris Hool (Top Alcohol Funny Car) were among the winners of the rain-postponed Topeka divisional contested at Tri-State on Friday. NHRA Division 6: Chris Demke scored a victory at the final stop on the Northwest division trail at Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon with a killer 5.27 in the final alongside Jim Whiteley. Annie Whiteley was victorious in Top Alcohol Funny Car as she edged out Brian Hough, 5.60 to 5.63, and Justin Lamb took his F/SMA Cobalt to the Competition Eliminator title over Aaron Strong. IHRA Division 3: Scott Richardson read dead-on his 4.71 dial in the Top Dragster final on day one of the IHRA Pro-Am at Kentucky’s London Dragway to join Top Sportsman winner Donnie Urban, who won on John Hochstedler’s foul start. Scott Stillings won his second Super Stock trophy in as many days on Sunday, and Ryan Richardson scored the Stock Eliminator crown by a scant 15-inches over Darren Morris.
