National Hot Rod Association officials on Tuesday unveiled the 2013 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series schedule that features of host of new venues for the popular nostalgia racing circuit, including the Mission Raceway Park in Mission, B.C., and Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City. The series, which is entering its sixth season, is headlined by the nitro-burning nostalgia Funny Car and front engine Top Fuel Dragsters.
As is traditional, the 2013 season will kick off with the famous March Meet at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., March 7-10, followed by the Arizona Fuel & Gas Championships on April 13-14 at the Speedworld Dragstrip in Wittmann, Ariz.
The NHRA has added the Holley NHRA Hot Rod Reunion at the Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky. as a points-earning stop of the Heritage series schedule for Top Fuel racers. The newest of the reunions, the inaugural New England Hot Rod Reunion, will do the same, bringing the total number of events in which the nostalgia nitro-burners can earn points to five.

“The Holley Hot Rod Reunion has always been an affiliate event but with Top Fuel teams from across the country participating in the series, we felt it was time to include this great event in the points championship,” said Larry Fisher, executive director of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum. “The two new Funny Car events just show how strong the Funny Car class and the series have become. We are very pleased to have these two great facilities join the series.”
The new stops at Mission and salt Lake City will host the nostalgia Funny Cars, bringing the total number of events at which they can compete to six.
The 2013 schedule features 12 events in all, with the Sacramento Raceway Park, and Firebird Raceway hosting events, in addition to those already mentioned.
The Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series consists of the two nitro categories, and two groups of additional classes. Group 1 includes A-Fuel, Jr. Fuel, and 7.0 Eliminator, while Group 2 includes NE I, NE II, NE III, A/Gas, B/Gas, C/Gas, D/Gas and Hot Rod Eliminator.
