Just two days after the American Drag Racing League announced the addition of the popular Outlaw 10.5 division to its series lineup, the competing X-Treme Drag Racing League has followed suit, revealing today that Outlaw 10.5 will join the fray for the seasons’ final four races, beginning at the upcoming Mayhem at the Creek at the Maryland International Raceway, July 26-27.
As X-DRL president Jeff Mitchell explains, the series has continued to listen to its track partners, racers, and fans to learn ways to better develop the on-track product.
“We have been looking for the right class to add since before the Spring Nationals that would complement our professional and sportsman programs, work with our track prep strategy and bring the fans the excitement they have come to expect from the X-DRL,” Mitchell said.
“We believe a properly structured 10.5 class will be exciting and fit well with the other classes we currently offer. This will be a 16-car field and use established rules.”
Director of Operations, Chris Bell, echoed Mitchell’s words, pointing out the value that the new category will add to the X-DRL. “We want to give the fans a new look with the “Street Car” appearance of the 10.5 cars while giving these dedicated racers the best track and facilities to compete on. Our rules will be out soon but are based on an established set of rules to allow racers the opportunity to race with us at a National event level.”
With the Budds Creek facility a hotbed area for Outlaw 10.5 racing, the class’ debut should having a strong showing of Northeast hitters on the 10.5W tire.
Per the announcement, series officials are expected to release additional information in the coming days, including payout, sponsor, and rule details.
