Hughes Performance is well-known for building some of the strongest transmissions known to man. Just recently, Hughes customer Vulcan McClellan took his twin turbocharged street-driven 1982 Camaro to a new personal-best pass of 7.21 at 204 MPH.
The 3,470-pound Camaro logs nearly 2,000 street miles a year in and around Vulcan’s home state of Washington, and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 548-cube big-block Chevy engine. This performance places him squarely into the realm of the quickest real street cars in America – and the world.

Hughes Performance is on board with their Powerglide transmission and Pro-VI Series billet 10.5-inch torque converter to help McClellan achieve the insane elapsed times. The car runs on Mickey Thompson ET Street tires, making the performance even that more awesome.
The Pro-VI series converters are built from a brand-new casing, and have been designed to take advantage of the more powerful racing engines of today – big boost and big nitrous applications are perfect for this converter design.
It features a hard hit off the starting line with a soft transition downtrack.
The best part? There is no loss in top end efficiency and speed. It runs quicker and faster than any of Hughes’ other torque converter designs with great consistency at the 60-foot mark and on the tree.
The stator has a more aggressive design, yet the fin angle in the pump is less aggressive to give the solid performance characteristics.
