As a means of further enhancing safety for competitors in the NMRA, NMCA, and NMCA WEST series, the Promedia Competition Department has invested in an Electrimotion Shutdown Transmitter system to be operational at all 2014 events that will be optional for all racers, but is being highly recommended by series officials for those in the quicker and faster classes, including Pro Mod.
The Electrimotion device, already in use and required by the NHRA and the ADRL, works in tandem with an Electrimotion Safety Box inside the car to automatically shut off the fuel and ignition to the race car, as well as deploy the parachutes once the vehicle has crossed the finish line, where the wall-mounted transmitter resides. The system provides an added degree of safety in the event of a crash or a rare circumstance where the driver is incapacitated and unable to safely shut the vehicle down. The system came into prominence in drag racing in response to the tragic passing of racers such as Scott Kalitta and Bert Jackson.
“As part of our ProPledge initiative to our competitors and fans, we felt it was important to invest and implement the transmitter at our races and recommend the safety device for Pro Mod racers,” said Rollie Miller, ProMedia National Event Director. “Our tech department will have the system installed at every event beginning with the NMRA race in Bradenton, Florida on March 6-9.”
