Veteran racer Tommy Turner and the Turner Racing Team captured Top Sportsman class honors at the recent 34th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at the Atlanta Dragway over a strong field competitors, doing so with the help of Holley’s Dominator EFI system that the team switched to just weeks prior to the event. After making the switch, the team paid a visit to Holley’s R&D facility to dial-in the combination on their mega-cube, 904-inch naturally-aspirated Steve Schmidt Racing powerplant — a package that delivers more than 1,800 horsepower. “Holley’s Dominator EFI system was very consistent last weekend,” says John Gilford, Turner Racing Crew Chief. “We’ll be making a few changes for our next race, and we’re confident that we’ll end up being faster than the previously carbureted setup.”
Turner qualified sixth in the 18-car field with a stellar 6.69 at 208 miles per hour and methodically worked his way through eliminations with run sin the 6.6 and 6.7-second range — an ode to the power that Schmidt has been able to achieve with the Holley EFI system.
“We have tested every major EFI system on the market and the Holley Dominator EFI has proven itself time and time again to be the most comprehensive, versatile and user friendly system available,” says Steve Schmidt of Steve Schmidt Engines. “We have taken many engines and converted them from other brands of EFI to Holley EFI, and found favorable gains in performance and tunability. Holley EFI is the only system we recommend to our customers, and the only EFI system we use on our championship winning race engines. From 500 horsepower street engines to 3,500 horsepower twin-turbo Outlaw Radial engines, Holley EFI is our choice.”
Holley’s Dominator EFI Vehicle Management Systems have been designed for compatibility with all engine applications, from street production vehicles to purpose-built racing machinery. Holley touts the system’s ease-of-use and its virtually unlimited control capabilities of naturally-aspirated single or dual throttle body, supercharged, turbocharged, nitrous-injected, or water-methanol-equipped combinations. The system can also control GM transmissions functions, drive-by-wire throttle bodies, and sports inputs for data acquisition.
