The NHRA will bring its Mission Foods Drag Racing Series back to familiar ground in 2027, with Pomona restored to its long-held site as the season opener, and again serving as the sport’s championship stage at season’s end.
The 20-race calendar — the NHRA’s 76th season — opens February18-21 with the 67th annual Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip and returns to Southern California Nov. 11-14 for the 62nd annual NHRA Finals. Between those dates, the tour will visit 18 venues across the country while featuring a season-long “50 Years of Force” celebration honoring retired 16-time Funny Car champion John Force.
“There is something special about beginning an NHRA season in Pomona,” NHRA President Glen Cromwell said when the opening stretch was revealed in July. “Returning to this traditional schedule allows us to honor our roots as we begin to celebrate one of the most remarkable figures in motorsports at John’s home track in Pomona.”
After consecutive weekends in Pomona and Phoenix, the series travels to Gainesville and Charlotte before the second running of the Southern Nationals at South Georgia Motorsports Park. Maryland International Raceway likewise returns for a sophomore national event, the Potomac Nationals, following a sellout debut in 2026.

June offers its customary eastern run through Epping, Bristol and Norwalk, while Route 66 Raceway’s annual stop moves from May to July. Sonoma and Seattle again make up the two-race Western Swing, followed by Brainerd and the 73rd U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis, the final stop before the Countdown to the Championship.
The six-race playoff remains intact from 2026 and, for the second consecutive season, launches with a demanding three-week stretch at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park, Rockingham Dragway and World Wide Technology Raceway. Texas Motorplex, Las Vegas and Pomona complete the championship chase.
Full details for the “50 Years of Force” celebrations, slated to take place at all 20 races during the 2027 season, will be released in the ear future. “John’s passion, competitiveness, and larger-than-life personality helped shape NHRA for the past five decades, captivating generations of fans,” Cromwell said of the yearlong Force tribute.
