The Yellowbullet Nationals has become a Labor Day tradition at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Maryland. The outlaw racing party thrown by Yellowbullet.com founder Monty Mikho packs the house with tons of racers and fans each year.
Fletcher Cox has made the transition from just a team owner to a team owner and driver look easy. Cox took the No. 1 qualifier spot in the Pro Mod class and proceeded to smash through the field on race day.
The KTR-tuned “Fixed Income” 1969 Camaro was a bracket car, running a string of 3.50 passes during eliminations. In the final, Cox was on the wheel with a .020 light and ran a 3.582 at 208.75 mph to defeat Jason Lee, who turned on the red light.
You’re not going to find many Pro 275 racers who have as much experience and as many wins as Mo Hall. The Maryland native is one of the most feared small-tire nitrous racers in the country, and he showed why he earned that reputation at the Yellowbullet Nationals.
Hall qualified No. 3 and lived in the 3.60s during eliminations. In the final, Hall faced off against No. 1 qualifier Blaine Johnson. Hall owned the final right from the start thanks to a .007 reaction time and carried that through the finish line with a 3.669 at 203 mph to best Johnson’s slower 5.206 at 121.74 mph.
Limited Drag Radial (LDR) featured a tough field of competitors at Yellowbullet. Jamie Hancock showed exactly why he’s the Radial Outlaw Racing Series LDR champion by running the table and winning the event.
Hancock used his first-round bye run to tune up his Firebird to kick off eliminations, and that helped his team execute a flawless race-day plan. The final round of LDR saw Hancock line up against Dale Arnold, who debuted a new engine package at the Yellowbullet event. Hancock ripped off a 3.890 at 185.26 mph to secure the victory.
The tightest racing at the Yellowbullet Nationals was found in the Ultra Street class. There were no soft spots on the 32-car ladder, so when Steve Romeo turned on the final win light of the weekend, he totally earned it.
Romeo and his GTO lived in the low 4.40s all through eliminations but really let loose in the final against Ryan Grigsby. Romeo’s booming 4.346 at 163.22 mph was enough to overcome Grigsby’s .006 light that was backed up by a 4.418 at 158.93 mph run.
The Outlaw Imports put on a show at Cecil County Dragway as they laid down six-second passes at over 200 mph in the quarter-mile. In the final, No. 1 qualifier Juanchy Illanas faced off against No. 2 qualifier Yamil Negron. It was a great race, with Illanas putting up a 6.679 at 212.33 mph to defeat Negron and his 6.709 at 211.16 mph.
Warrior Outlaw racers had both an A and B field at the Yellowbullet Nationals. In the A-Field final, Billy Brown went red and handed the win to Paul Satterfield, who ran a 4.160 at 174.37 mph.
In Top Sportsman, Dave Muller secured a win over Ron Riegel in a double-breakout final. Rick Steinke scored the 8.50 Index win by throwing down an 8.504 on George Eleutheriou in the money round. Justin Kinsler beat Shane Ballas in a double-breakout final in the 10.00 Index class. The Pro Dial final saw James Antonette rip off a 9.093 on his 9.09 dial to earn a victory over James Antonetle Sr.
