Piedmont Dragway’s future has been in doubt since Darryl Cuttell purchased the facility. Thankfully, Greg Loflin and Terry Ferrell have removed that doubt by acquiring the iconic North Carolina track, and they plan to reopen it next year.

The track, which had hosted events for nearly 70 years, was shuttered and torn up for alleged improvements. Racers and fans became concerned when it appeared all work on the track had stopped. Those concerns grew even larger after the IHRA ceased operations and Cuttle put all of his properties up for sale.

Loflin and Ferrell, who are involved with Loflin Fabrication, HWY Attachments, MRRPM, and TKM Performance, have roots in the drag racing world. Former PDRA owner Bob Harris will be a part of the team that operates the facility. Rick Moore has been tapped to take on the role of general manager, and he will work with Liz Vance in this role.

According to Harris, a contract has already been signed that will take care of all the concrete work the facility needs to function as a drag strip again. A new lighting system and timing system are also on the docket to be addressed.

No date has been set for the track to reopen, which is fine, because seeing this historic facility remain a drag strip is a huge win for the sport. You can follow the progress at Piedmont Dragway right here on Facebook.
