Today’s the day at the NMCA World Street Car finals where champions will be crowned. We will have updates throughout the day of all the great racing action, stay tuned!One of the series titles that will be decided today is the NA 10.5 category. Dwight Ausmus was leading the points going into the final event, but only managed to qualify fourth. Now if he wants to win the title over Mike DeMayo, Ausmus must win the entire race. DeMayo’s road is not a clear path, after his bye round he will face former class champion Lenard Long.Another title that has yet to be settled is the Nostalgia Pro Street class. So far Joe Bucaro has been able to stay ahead of Jennifer Brooke Rice during qualifying throughout the weekend. If he wants to win the title Bucaro must stay at least one round ahead of Rice during eliminations today, or beat her in a heads up match up in the semi-finals.The final championship that remains open is in the Street Outlaw class. Jarod Wenrick has been the model of consistency this season going rounds and cutting good lights, but everything will come down to his ability to execute today. If Wenrick gets past the first round today, he will face McCarty in the second round where the title will be decided in an epic showdown!Number seven qualifier Thomas Jones was finally able to get his Mustang to show its full potential in round one of Pro Mod, defeating number eight qualifier Bob D’Andrea with a 3.96 pass.
Number three in points Stephan Stringer was able to gain more ground on Richard Holt in the standings when he defeated David Roemer in round one with a 3.97 blast, his best of the weekend and will face Jackie Sloan Jr. in round two.2016 Pro Mod Champion Tim Savel was able to advance to the second round with a trouble filled 4.69 pass when Jonas Alishire threw a blower belt on his Corvette right at the hit.Keith Berry had a scare in round when he face Greg Powrie in Radial Wars. Berry lost traction and began to coast to a 4.62, as Powrie did everything he could to run Berry down. Berry will face David Adkins in round two.Travis Esseuman put together a solid 4.15 pass to defeat a struggling Daniel Pharris who spun and got out of the groove in round one of Radial Wars.Dwayne Mills is the 2016 Radial Wars champion, but had one heck of a battle on his hands in round one versus Jim Monson. Mills was on a solid pass when his Camaro spun very hard and Monson nearly ran him down with a 4.50 ET to Mills slower 4.55.
Phil Hines struggled during qualifying in Street Outlaw and was only qualified in the number 12 spot. In round one Hines pulled off a huge upset taking out number three qualifier Jason Lee with a 4.56 pass as Lee spun at the hit.Number nine qualifier Alex Hays in his all motor monster Mustang was matched up with number six qualifier Andrew DeMarco in round one of Street Outlaw. Hays was able to pull off the holeshot win as DeMarco had some slight issues in the first 60 feet running a 4.90 to DeMarco’s 4.89.Jarod Wenrick took care of business in round one getting the win with a 4.89 pass, setting the stage for a showdown with Jackie McCarty in round two. The winner of the Wenrick vs McCarty battle will have a clear path to the Street Outlaw title.
Gary Nash got the win in round one of Nitrous Pro Street over Josh Ritli with a 8.02 pass, and keep his slim margin over James Noel for 9th place in points. Number one qualifier Jeff Rudolf is working towards making his way into the top three in the Nitrous Pro Street points with a first round win over Jennifer Brooke Rice running a stout 7.56 pass. Rudolf is now in control of his own destiny to get a top three finish with a bye into the semi-finals.With Jennifer Brook Rice falling to Rudolf in round one, Joe Bucaro is your 2016 Nitrous Pro Street Champion. Bucaro will now face James Noel for a spot in the semi-finals.Number five Xtreme Street qualifier Valerie Clements took on number six qualifier Scotty Guiler in what was the best battle of the class from round one. Clements was able to get the holeshot off the line and get to half-track before Guiler, but that was all she had before Guiler’s nitrous huffing Oldsmobile was able to catch her running a 7.74.Jessie Coulter spun very hard at the hit in his Camaro versus Josh Pratt during the first round of Real Street eliminations, but was able to recover after spotting Pratt a sizeable lead and take the stripe with a 8.72 pass.Tommy Delago got a round one gift as Ben Mens had issues before half-track, allowing Delago to get past him and score the round one victory in NA 10.5.Dwight Ausmus kept his NA 10.5 title hopes alive in round one defeating John Snyder with a solid 8.07 pass in the heat of the day.
Billy Banaka had his best run of the weekend during round two of eliminations in Pro Mod with a 3.84, taking out number four qualifier Richard Holt in his Camaro.Tim Savell got his hot rod sorted out and took out Tomas Jones running a 3.86 to stamp his ticket to the semi-final round.Joe Bucaro kicked off his Nitrous Pro Street victory tour by running his best time of the weekend with a booming 7.41 pass in round number two.Andy Vogt has been getting faster all weekend during eliminations, and picked up the pace even more with a 7.47 pass to move into the semi-final round of Nitrous Pro Street by defeating Gary Nash who only ran a 7.69.
Dwayne Mills ran a 3.99 during round two of Radial Wars and will square off against last year’s Radial Wars champion Keith Berry in the final.
Georgia Buckley made very hard contact with the wall at the top end during her bye run in Street Outlaw, and was transported to a local hospital for observation. In the fight game they say to never leave the decision in the hands of the judges, and that’s the route Jarod Wenrick and Jacky McCarty took. In the second round of Street Outlaw McCarty took out Wenrick with a 4.41 pass to earn the 2016 NMCA title.Eric Kenward continues his march to the Xtreme Street title by remaining consistent and running another 7.57 pass on the second round.Joe DeDona went for a wild ride during LSX Drag Radial when his Corvette went into a massive wheelstand and Anthony Manna crossed into his lane on the pass.Vince Khoury ran his best pass of the weekend at 8.11, and scored an upset win in the second round of NA 10.5 by taking down number three qualifier David TheisenChevy Performance Stock racer Kevin Lumsden matched his best pass of the weekend in the semi-finals with a 10.30 and will face points leader Glenn Pushis in the final to see who wins the title!
DeWayne Mills celebrated his 2016 NMCA Radial Wars title by winning the World Street Finals at Norwalk by defeating 2015 champ Keith Berry. Mills was late off the tree but able to drive around Berry with a 3.89 pass, his quickest of the weekend and event.In Xtreme Street Louie Filippides took down series points leader Eric Kenward on a holeshot win on a .075 light, and with a 7.56 elapse time to Kenward’s 7.55.Camren Massegale took the win in the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series Real Street class by beating Jessie Coulter in the final with a 7.63 run.Joe Bucaro capped off his Nitrous Pro Street title with the event win at the World Street Finals. Bucaro defeated Andy Vogt with a holeshot win running a 7.41 to Vogts quicker 7.39In the final of Chevy Performance Stock Kevin Lumsden took out series points leader Glen Pushis with his best run of the weekend, a 10.301 to Pushis’ 10.365 effort.Andy Essary was able to lead the Chevrolet Performance Challenge series Drag Radial class wire to wire at Norwalk, getting the number one qualifier spot, and event win with a 4.46 effort on the final over Joe DeDona.In the Street Outlaw Final Jacky McCarty proved why he earned the NMCA world title by defeating Phil Hines with another blazingly quick 4.45 pass to Hines’ 4.51 effort.The NA 10.5 final was the best of the evening due to the high drama it brought. Number one Michael DeMayo squared off against Dwight Ausmus, the winner of this race would be the 2016 series champion. DeMayo was able to drive around Ausmus at the top end and get the victory with a 7.90 elapse time.
After having issues in qualifying, Tim Savell went on a tear through the Pro Mod field at the finals. Savell capped his 2016 NMCA championship with the win in Pro Mod by defeating number one qualifier Randy Adler in the final with a 3.81 pass.
Action has kicked off here at Summit Motorsports Park for day two of the NMCA World Street Finals.John Caricini usually runs Outlaw 10.5 with his Corvette and is here trying to get some testing in Pro Mod at the World Street Finals. The car actually blew through the converter last night on his 4.43 pass and expects the car to run in the low 4 second range today.Number two qualifier Richard Holt and his team switched to a screw blower for this weekend and will be putting some heat in the tune-up for the second round of qualifying today in Pro Mod.Tom Stringer was a late arrival last night and will be making his first qualifying attempt to make the field in Pro Mod this morning.David Roemer had a small thermal event last night during the first round of qualifying in his Camaro. The issue was due to a computer issue and didn’t do any serious damage to the car.Keith Berry is doing everything he can to crash the Radial Wars title picture this weekend. Berry went number one last night during qualifying running a 4.09 at 188mph.
David Adkins had a huge wheelstand on his first qualifying attempt last night in Radial Wars. His Impala only had minor damage from the air show, but also broke the ring gear during the pass that was not related to the wheelstand. This is Adkins third time on radials and they are still trying to figure the car out. John Snyder usually runs his all-motor GTO in Ultra Street at small tire events on the East Coast. This weekend Snyder decided to throw some slicks on his Goat and try his luck in NA 10.5 for the first time. The car spun pretty hard so he will be moving some weight around to try and get the car planted better for the second qualifier.Travis Esseuman qualified number two in Radial Wars, but had to make repairs this morning. The 1989 Corvette broke a valvespring on the pass but did not hurt anything else and will be in the lanes for the second qualifier.
Gary Nash qualified number four in Nitrous Pro Street with his 632 cubic inch powered 1992 Camaro. The 632 cubic inch motor knocked the tip off a spark plug on the pass. Michael DeMayo is working towards locking up the NA 10.5 title after his number one qualifying effort last night. The team plans on only doing some minor changes to the car, and getting it ready to go rounds in the extremely hot conditions that are expected the rest of the weekend.Jonas Adler made a big move in Pro Mod jumping to the number two spot in round two of qualifying with a 3.87 pass in his blown CorvetteDavid Roemer recovered nicely from his first round issues and moved into the number 3 qualifying spot after running a 3.96 in round two of Pro Mod qualifying.Kevin Skinner is challenging Chuck Watson hard for the Factory Super Car title here at the World Street Car Finals. Skinner ran a 8.39 to move into the number one qualifying spot ahead of Watson.Jeff Rudolf was the big mover this round of Nitrous Pro Street, going from not making a pass in last night’s session of qualifying, to the number one spot with a 7.48 pass.Joe Buravo capitalized on Jennifer Brooke Rice not making this round of qualifying and keeping his title hopes alive. Buravo ran another solid 7.49 pass and staying in the number three spot.Dwayne Mills and Daniel Pharris both looked to be on big passes in their second attempts in Radial Wars until they each went into big power wheelies down track.Keith Berry remained number one in Radial Wars after the second qualifying session when nobody bettered his 4.09 pass from last night.Former Street Outlaw champ Phil Hines made his first qualifying attempt of the weekend, but kicked the tires just past the 60’ foot cone on the warm track surface.Andrew DeMarco was one of the few Street Outlaw competitors who made a clean pass in the second session in his ProCharged Mustang.Chevy Performance Challenge Series Drag Radial points leader Mark Carlyle ran a solid 4.74 pass even as his Z06 Corvette began to power wheelie.Camren Massengale set the Real Street class record with a booming 7.54 pass during round two of qualifying.
Louie Filippides and Eric Kenward remained number one and two during the second session of Xtreme Street qualifying. Kenward will need to try and use the final qualifying session to seal the class title. Martin Connelley made a big jump to the number three spot in Xtreme Street in round two of qualifying in his fox body Mustang.Dwight Ausmus was unable to run quicker than his seven second pass last night with a 8.07 in the heat of the day during the second qualifier in NA 10.5, so he remains behind DeMayo on the qualifying ladder.The 2015 NA 10.5 champ Lenard Long posted the second best time of the round with his 8.07 pass.The biggest news of the second NA 10.5 qualifier was that Michael DeMayo had mechanical troubles and did not make a pass. If he can’t make the third qualifier and Ausmus is able to go to the number one spot it will make it difficult for DeMayo to win the title.
Thomas Jones spent the time between Pro Mod qualifier two and three chasing a performance issue with his Shelby Mustang. It appears there was a problem with ignition of the car that caused it to only fire on six cylinders. Jones things they solved the issue by repairing the cap on the distributor and should now be able to run in the .80 range in the third session.Randy Adler still remains on the top of the Pro Mod qualifying sheets after two sessions. The team has been working on making sure the car will be consistent when the track will be hot and the air not ideal during Sunday’s elimination rounds. Adler doesn’t have any plans to make major changes in the tune-up of his blown Chevy going into Q3.William Houghton has been fighting issues all weekend with his 1968 Barracuda in Radial Wars qualifying. During the first session the car rode a giant wheelie and lost traction at almost half-track. In the second qualifier the car launched hard, but Houghton had to pedal it down track after the car started to push towards the left. Houghton has made adjustments to the suspension so the Mopar will track straight when the boost comes in.Jackie McCarty was noticeably absent from the second session of Street Outlaw qualifying today. According to McCarty since they are still sitting number one, and the conditions were so hot they decided to save the car for the Q3.
Street Outlaw racer Phil Smith decided to freshen up his 632 cubic inch nitrous huffing mill after some ominous smoke appeared during the second qualifier. Their plan is to put fresh pistons and rings in the motor before tonight’s final session. NA 10.5 racer John Langer has been creeping up on the tune-up of his Pontiac this weekend. Since the start of racing here at Norwalk, Langer has tried several different converters and rearend gears to dial the car in. He is pleased with the progress so far and hopes the final set of changes made before Q3 will help more.James Noel went from number one to number four in Nitrous Pro Street after the second qualifying session. The plan for Noel is to make some small changes in his 1969 Mustang so it will stay consistent for the remainder of the event since the track will continue to be tricky.The line to meet Discovery Channel Street Outlaws star “Daddy Dave” Comstock was pretty long most of the day. Since taking down Birdman at Outlaw Armageddon last weekend and damaging the engine in his Nova, Dave already got it repaired, and made an appearance at Edgewater Dragway racing some locals. Dave will be making exhibition passes in Goliath 2.0 at different times throughout the weekend.Mother Nature decided to ruin the drag racing run for the day here at Norwalk. The plan is for racing to begin at 8:30 am with Open Comp on Sunday.
The National Muscle Car Association returns to the majestic Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio to put a cap on the 2016 racing season, and with a number of championships yet to be decided, along with the LSX Challenge Series and the annual Cobra Jet Showdown on tap, there’s plenty of racing action to come all weekend long. The first round of qualifying will start around 4:00 pm, so stay tuned for more updates.Alex Hays made the trip from Michigan with his all-motor Ultra-Street Mustang to run in Street Outlaw at the World Finals. This will be the first time Hays has run in the NMCA as a heads-up racer.
Joe Bucaro and Jennifer Brooke Rice are locked in an epic battle for the Nitrous Pro Street title. The two racers are separated by only 150 points, or just over a round of racing. Jarod Wenrick made a camshaft change in his 1966 Nova that he campaigns in Street Outlaw. Wenrick hopes the change will net him more power on the top end to keep up with the turbo cars.Daniel Pharris is doing everything he can to stay in the Radial Wars title picture this weekend at the World Finals. Right now Pharris needs everything to go perfect, and needs some serious luck to catch Dewayne Mills and win the title.Jason Lee is pulling double duty this weekend doing both the driving, and tuning of Eric Gustafson’s LSX powered Mustang in Street Outlaw this weekend.Former NMRA Renegade champion Bart Tobener is here racing his turbo 2015 Mustang in Xtreme Street after testing with the car at the Indy event in the class.Michael Biehle plans on racing at the U.S. Nationals in Pro Mod next weekend, and is here making some passes in the Pro Mod class.Andrew DeMarco will be running Street Outlaw this weekend trying to work on the recent changes made to his ProCharged Mustang. DeMarco thinks the car will run in the 4.50s range during qualifying this weekend.Tim Savell has a commanding lead over Randy Adler in Pro Mod, and looks to wrap the title up quickly this weekend when eliminations start.Two-time, and defending Radial Wars champion Keith Berry finds himself on the outside looking in for this year’s title, however he can play the role of spoiler between Pharris and Mills.Jacky McCarty looks to finish his 2016 year out in Street Outlaw with the series title. McCarty is trying to fight off Jarod Wenrick and his hard charging Nova, who has added some horsepower to his car specifically for this race.Alexis DeJoria’s crew chief Tommy DeLago is taking the weekend off crewing on her nitro Funny car, and is here running his Nova in the NA 10.5 class.Don’t adjust your computer, that is Ben Mens preparing a Firebird to race. Mens’ Mustang is still getting chassis upgrades, so Vince Khoury allowed him to borrow his F-body to get some racing in this weekend.
In NA 10.5 Dwight Ausmus could be in the tightest points battle of the NMCA finals with Michael Demayo. According to Ausmus he must out-qualify Demayo and match him round for round to keep his points lead and win the title. TJ Bailey and the Summit Motorsports Park crew are doing a great job keeping the track in top shape today during testing.The Cobra Jet Shootout is in full swing here at the World Street Finals with some great racing already.Nostalgia Muscle Car racer Andy Warren is one of the few who has his title locked up this weekend at the World Street Finals, but is looking to add another win to his legacy as one of the NMCA’s most winning drivers.Dave Granger made it to the World Street Finals after a devastating nitrous explosion that destroyed the intake on his Top Sportsman Henry J.
Eric Kenward pretty much has the Xtreme Street title wrapped up, but still must have a solid weekend to fight off Louie Filippides and his ProCharged Camaro. Kevin Lumsden currently second in the Chevrolet Performance Stock class., and is doing everything he can to catch Glenn Pushis.
Mark Walter and Lorenzo Brooks were involved in a top end accident during Top Sportsman qualifying, both drivers were able to get out of their cars under their own power. Newcomer to the NMCA John Caricini brought his C5 Corvette out to try and make the Pro Mod field, the car shows a ton of potential with a 4.43.Richard Holt laid down a solid run in his first qualifier of Pro Mod with a 3.97 to take the three spot.Number one qualifier Randy Adler put the field in Pro Mod on notice by putting up a big number, and running a 3.81 during the first qualifier.And with this pass Tim Savell is your 2016 NMCA Pro Mod champion, by virtue of making the field. Now it’s all about pride for Savell as he tries to get the win at the World Street Finals.In Pro Stock Kevin Lawerence went to number one qualifier and is the first person to run in the 6’s with a 6.98 in the class that goes full-time in the NMCA in 2017.Jennifer Brooke Rice had a serious mechanical issue during the first round of qualifying and only ran a 8.82, making her title hopes a bit tougher at this point.James Noel was able to shock the field and go number one in the first round of Nostalgia Pro Street with a 7.50 pass.Joe Bucaro ran a 7.53 at only 157mph during the first qualifier, but was able to secure the number 3 and stay ahead of Jennifer Brook Rice in the Nostalgia Pro Street standings.Travis Essman was able to take the number two qualifying spot in his twin-turbo C4 Corvette with a 4.14.
The first round of Radial Wars has Dwayne Mills going number 3 with a 4.16 et as Daniel Pharris had traction issues and had to lift on his pass. Jason Lee drove the doors off of Eric Gustafson’s Mustang to take the number three spot in Street Outlaw with a 4.48.Kevin Neal ripped off a booming 4.46 in Street Outlaw to go number 2 before he had a massive smoke cloud erupt from under his car.
Jacky McCarty and Jarod Wenrick squared off in the first qualifier of Street Outlaw with McCarty getting the upper hand running a 4.41 to go number one, with Wenrick blasting off a stout 4.60 during a pedal job. Bill Trovato put on a show with a massive wheelstand in his 2010 CamaroEric Kenward is trying to solidify his points lead running a 7.53 to go number two in Xtreme Street.Last years Xtreme Street champion David Hutnick was able to go to the number 4 with a 7.61 pass.Louie Filippides is working to keep Kenward honest in the Xtreme Street points standings by going number one in qualifying with a 7.52 blast.Dwight Ausmus is trying to keep his NA 10.5 title hopes alive by running a 7.96 to go to the number two spot after the first qualifier.
Scary moment for Chad Neuenschwander during NA 10.5 qualifying when his fox body Mustang got out of the groove and hit the wall at the top end. The car erupted into flames, but Neuenschwander was able to get out of the car without injury. Michael Demayo asserted himself as the number one qualifier, and taking the points lead with a 7.90 pass during the first round of NA 10.5 qualifying.
