Keeping a transmission lubricated with the correct amount of fluid is the cornerstone of longevity for the unit. In drag racing there are any different forces that push the fluid around a standard pan that might starve the transmission for lubrication. Hughes Performance has found a way to remedy the fluid starvation and possible cavitation issues in the popular powerglide transmission with their new pan.

With years of racing experience under their belts, Hughes Performance knows what to look for when it comes to generating products racers need. Their new pan for the powerglide transmission helps to prevent cavitation and fluid starvation issues that can occur under hard acceleration at the track.

Tony Kane from Hughes Performance explains a bit more the thought process that went into the development of this new pan. “Through our research and customer information we found that the fluid generally runs to the back of the transmission pan on launch and hard acceleration. Windage trays are very popular in engines for dry sump systems to help keep the motor lubricated under acceleration, so we applied that same logic to this pan.”

The final product is a pan for the powerglide that helps keep the fluid around the filter so there’s no cavitation or starvation. This prevents air from being sucked into the transmission and creating inconsistency or possibly cavitation in the torque converter. The angle of the pan has also been changed to make sure when the car is static, or being launched fluid is always being picked up correctly.

This new aluminum pan is available now and more details can be found on the Hughes Performance website.
