The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series returned to what has quickly become regarded as one of the finest racetracks on tour, the Virginia Motorsports Park, this weekend for the NHRA Virginia Nationals.

Racing on a more than 130-degree racing surface, Steve Torrence collected his second consecutive Top Fuel victory, powering his way past Antron Brown in the finale. Ron Capps also won for the second-straight race, ousting a slowing J.R. Todd, while Bo Butner earned his class-leading fourth win on the year in a tight contest with teammate Greg Anderson.

Andrew Hines, who has run roughshod over the Pro Stock Motorcycle field in 2019, won for the third-straight race — and for the fourth time in this five-race-old season — over teammate Eddie Krawiec. Sidnei Frigo claimed his third career Pro Modified title in a great holeshot-aided defeat of Steve Jackson, and Drew Skillman continued his torrid pace over the Factory Stock Showdown field with a holeshot win in the final round over Bo Butner.

East coast photographer David Gates was on hand in sunny and warm Dinwiddie, Virginia, and captured all the action through his lenses for your viewing pleasure. Hit the gallery and give ’em a look!
