Today is the day for eliminations here in Orlando kicking off with overcast skies and a lower track temp. Mike Freemanish ripped off a 4.90 in Ultra Street last night for a track record and personal best. He runs a KBX 400 boosted by an 91MM F1C Procharger with trans and converter and tuning by Jason Gatlin at ATF. "This is a team effort which would not be possible with Jason's help. Thanks also to John Kolivas for the help with the suspension lest night putting us one step closer to 4.80's" - Mike Freeman

New Port Richey, Florida racer Werner Saradin is running 10.0 Index this weekend with his 65 GTO. It's been a crowd pleaser carrying the left front with the stock suspension old school set up. He is forty eighth of fifty eight cars in class.

Tricky Ricky Smith had an opponent broke bye over Mike Tokarz rolling out to a 5.84 at just 218 shutting it down just a bit early. He will also have a single in round two before meeting with the winner of Kris Thorne vs Billy Glidden.

Smokey Hale paired up with Al Dito with Dito takign the starting line advantage. He put up a clean4.54 at 157 in a game effort but fell victim to Hale's 4.51 at 158.

Walter Drakeford and Ari Birchfield were paired up with Birchfield getting a good advantage on the tree. Drakeford's 4.97 at 136 did the trick and he will advance to round two to face off with number five qualifier Tim Hendricks.

Kevin Fiscus faced off with Chuck Mohn in round two Pro Mod putting up a 5.91 at 222 after a Mohn foul start.

Adam Flamholc faced off with import powered record holder Isaoas Rojas' Cobalt racing out of Mech Tech here in Orlando. Rojas took the starting line advantage with an .077 reaction running through the stripe to a 6.011 at 238. It just wasn't enough to stay in front of the 5 Day Plantation Shutter and Blinds NHRA Legal Pro Mod based in Malmo Sweden setting another personal best and low ET this round 5.827 at 245 MPH. He will face of with Kevin Fiscus in the semi final. The team is very happy so far with the performance of the MMR/HRA built engine topped with a Mike Janis blower. The team plans to run the Citrus Nationals and Snowbird Outlaw Nationals before running IHRA and NHRA Pro Mod next season.

The semi final in Pro Mod was Kevin Fiscus and Adam Flamholc with both racers on good runs. At the strip it would be Fiscus earning the win with a 5.84 to Flamholc’s 5.88 with the margin of victory being just .0018 of a second. Fiscus will face Glidden in the final round.
Troy Blake faced off with Jordan Ensslin in the Outlaw 632 semi final running a 4.48 at 160. Ensslin broke at the launch. The final will be Rolando Hale vs Blake with Jeff Ensslin going red taking himself out on a 4.45 pass.

Josh Klugger will face off with Chad Opaleski who has lane choice with yet another personal best 4.20 at 183 MPH. Fiscus will have his hands full as Chad has been the most consistent car in Radial vs the World this weekend.

The Ultra Street final will have two familiar faces in Troy Pirez Jr. and Walter Drakeford. Pirez had a good match with Bill Gregan running a 4.96 to Gregan's game 5.02. Mike Freeman struck the tires in his match with Drakeford who went on to run a 4.97 setting up the all nitrous final.

Billy Glidden earned his first win here in Orlando since 2002 where he won Outlaw 10.5 in his black Mustang. Today it would be Pro Modified in a match agaisnt fellow NMRA competitor Kevin Fiscus. Kevin had lane choice going into the final but went red handing Glidden the event win with his best of weekend 5.89 at 239 MPH.

Heavy Street number one qualifier Ken Quartuccio met with local racer Jok Totight in the final with lane choice and a distinct advantage for the double entered racer. Totight took the holeshot with a .028 reaction but was outpaced by Quartuccio's 7.19 at 164 coasting through the quarter mile.

Jorge Lozcano ran well in qualifying but hurt the engine and left the track to make repairs yesterday. The team was back today but struggled in eliminations before meeting up with Greg Cason in the final

Untra Street featured some very close racing this weekend with Walter Drakeford and Troy Pirez Jr. meeting up in the final. Drakeford took the advantage on the tree scoring an .036 reaction and running a 4.99 to Pirez' quicker 4.95 to earn the holeshot win for back to back RWSN wins in Ultra Street.

Tony Ridenour waded through the Outlaw 275 field to meet up with Phil Hines in the final for a blower vs turbo pairing. Hines left first but struck teh tires allowing Ridenour to drive by with a 4.46 at 171.

Kenny Anderson (near lane) and Will Kirklin waded through four rounds of competition in 8.50 Index to meet in the final. Kirklin left first in a tight race with both drivers playing the stripe. Kenny took the win with an 8.55 to Kirklin's 8.60.

The weather cooled off quite a bit overnight for a low of near 60 degrees though we will be facing a lot of sunshine heating up the track surface today. We go hot at 10 AM with round two of qualifying in the first of three sessions today. Dragzine will be back in the house bringing you coverage throughout the weekend, made possible by the folks at Comp Cams. Tim Bates and Lil Bull were on the mike this morning waking the racers up getting things started. There are several racers here and local participating shops offering services to racers in need of parts or repairs  including BLP Racing Products, American Motrosports/Advanced Driveline, JW Transmissions and Holeshot Performance Wheels and Central Florida Machine's Gene Kerr.

We caught up with Enrique Pirez  putting his second round tune up in the car this morning for driver Ari Birchfeild. The team had a new personal best winning Ultra Street in Palm Beach two weeks ago and ran a 5.05 while testing here Thursday. Enrique is shown here at left with his niece Ariel Birchfield.

Danny Palm Jr. and crew are long time participants here at Orlando and have resurrected the El Camino for Outlaw 632 this weekend after an accident in 2007. The car was originally built in 1989 and went through multiple updates since the crash now running a Shafiroff 632 cubic inch big block Chevy.

Charles Hull is normally found at NMRA or X275 events but has switched it up with a 102 mm Precision turbo for Outlaw 275 this weekend feeding the billet head Bennett Racing small Ford as part of Team KBX with car build and fabrication from Pressurized Solutions. So far so good with the added power and Hull will be looking for 4.20's this weekend.

Tyler Roux runs an unusual combination in his Ultra Street Chevy Silverado with a ODC Built 383 small block Chevy single Borg Warner 76 MM turbo with a blow through carburetor set up. Eric Kenward's Eric Automotive was tasked with fab work and assisting tuning the TRZ Motorsports suspension. Yesterday he was running off the waste gate landing thirteenth with a 5.26 at 130 MPH.

Asaoas Rojas was running well this afternoon and with the Mech Tech Cobalt. In the final session he left well and the car stuck running through the finish line to a 5.98 at 241 to become the first import powered car to runs 5's in the United States.

It’s that time of year again, as the Orlando Speed World Dragway welcomes the top doorslammer racers in the country to its fabled 1/4-mile for the one and only Real World Street Nationals. Rick Prospero ran Drag Week again this year but with his new car, this 1990 Mazda RX7 winning the Modified Power Adder class. The engine is the same 555cubic inch big Chevy combo from his Chevy II wagon fed by twin Garrett turbos. He ran a 7.80 at 180 today, a bit off where they want but a clean run. Josh Sweir has changed up his combination and will be focusing on Outlaw 275 now. I spoke with Dennis Lugo who will driving the car this weekend. The 427 inch small Ford will be fitted with twin turbos soon but it running this weekend with a loaner 114MM piece from Eric Kenward.

Bobby Dodrill has Miss Misery ready for racing and made his first hit after the rebuild this afternoon. He was here yesterday but had trouble with getting the transmission into reverse. The 1978 C-10 Chevy is powered by a 540 cubic inch Keith Black Chevy with 18 degree big chief style heads topped with PSI C rotor supercharger. 10.0 and 8.50 have an interesting mix of car types and brands with a good car count in both classes.
Heavy Street was the first heads up class in qualifying after 10.0 and 8.50 Index. Lil Bull put up an 8.64 at 159 MPH.

Ken Quartuccio is running Outlaw/X632 this weekend as well as Heavy Street which he ran a 7.02 at 178 this afternoon but his chute didn't deploy and he ran off the end of the track into the grass before getting stopped. He and the car are ok as he made the qualifying round for 632 this evening putting up a 4.55 at 159.68 MPH.

Smith took the tree and the win light with a 5.84 at 247 though that's not so relevant in qualifying. For his part Fiscus ran a 5.78 at 260 putting both cars well under the current ET record of 5.92. It's safe to say the game is afoot.
