Going to a drag strip is always fun, but going to a big event at Summit Motorsports Park just feels different, almost magical. Walking around the grandstands feels like you’re at a theme park rather than a race track. It’s an elevated experience you just don’t get anywhere else.
The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals had a different atmosphere this year. Yes, it was boiling hot, but if you were there, you didn’t care because of how good the racing was. We got to see some super emotional victories thanks to Corey Reed and John Hall. Then there were the heroic thrashes pulled off by Tony Stewart and Clay Millican’s teams that kept them in the hunt for wins.
My job as a drag racing journalist is to tell the story of what I see from an objective point of view. Pictures are a great medium to accomplish this task. Photos are going to tell the story of what’s going on in that brief moment of time. I can tell you that when you’re at the track, most of those moments are filled with fun and joy. I’m documenting people making a run in their race car, capturing crews getting a car ready, or I just get to shoot people having a good time at the drag strip.
