CHAMPIONS CROWNED AS NMCA SEASON ENDS WITH A BANG IN INDY
The NMCA Flowmaster Muscle Car Nationals series closed the books on the 2014 racing season over the weekend in Indianapolis, crowning its champions and shattering records in every heads-up category.
NMCA World Street Finals
First-time NMCA Pro Mod winner Michael Biehle headlined the winners circle festivities at the NMCA World Street Finals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis on Sunday, as the series crowned its champions and shattered several records at its season-ending blowout. Biehle ran in the 5.80’s on every pass during the weekend to dominate Pro Mod, taking down new champion and ET record holder Steve Summers in the final. DeWayne Mills shocked everyone when he unloaded the quickest pass in NMCA Radial Wars history at 4.08 to defeat Keith Berry in the final round, while David Hutnick and Dwayne Barbaree both came from behind in the points chases in Xtreme Street and Street Outlaw, respectively, to steal the titles with their final round victories.

LSX Challenge
Mark Carlyle sowed up the LSX Drag Radial championship at the season-ending LSX Challenge in Indy, but it was Anthony Manna who stood tall on the weekend, ousting a troubled Carlyle in the final round with a 4.59 effort. In LSX Real Street, Louie Fillipides was dominant, setting new IRS records during the weekend and storming to a 7.84 in the final, outpacing Adam Preston’s likwise impressive 7.94 in the final. And in LSX All Motor, Don Baskin took down Robert Strong in the final, running an 8.31 for the victory.

PDRA Dragstock
After five weeks, four rain delays, and a move to a new venue entirely, the PDRA’s Dragstock event in Rockingham was finally completed Sunday night in Richmond during qualifying for the series’ season-ending race. In Pro Extreme, Mick Snyder edged our Badir Ahli by mere inches in the final round, coming from behind to take a 3.61 to 3.62 victory. A pair of Pro Nitrous heavyweights squared off in the final round, with Tommy Franklin posting a crushing 3.73-second blast to oust class champ Jason Harris, while in Pro Boost, Anthony Disomma was awarded the victory after both he and opponent Larry Higginbotham left before the tree was activated. The Richmond event, delayed by rain showers all weekend, is being completed today.

IHRA World Finals
Peter Gallen earned his first IHRA Ironman trophy of the 2014 season at the IHRA’s World Finals in Memphis over the weekend, running 5.80 in the final round to best Mark Sanders. In Pro Stock, Brad Waddle defeated a red-lghting Kevin Bealko, while Jay Turner cranked off a 6.29 in the Nitro Harley final to best Randal Andras and his 6.35. The story of the weekend, however, was the IHRA’s winner-take-all Tournament of Champions, crowning its sportsman class champions. Mike Koontz (Top Sportsman) and Kevin Brannon (Top Dragster) led the list of esteemed champs who will carry the No. 1 proudly in 2015.

Duane Shields garnered his second divisional win of the season in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Southeast division finale at Auto-Plus Raceway in Gainesville, defeating Jon Finke, 5.48 to 5.63. He was joined in victory lane by Top Alcohol Funny Car champ Matt Gill and Competition Eliminator victor Chuck Haubiel, who was better on both ends of the race track in his C/SM Chevrolet to best Rick Brown.
