NMCA: Same day coverage from Indianapolis. It took nearly 24 hours to do it, but the 2012 NMCA season came to a close in the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning as Clint Hairston and Randy Adler rocketed into the darkness to close out the NMCA World Street Finals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. Hairston, who broke the national elapsed time record a round earlier at 5.97 seconds, defeated Adler in the final, 6.00 to 6.09. In Super Street, Steve Summers scored his first NMCA victory, blasting to a 6.59 in the final round to defeat Ed Parker. John Warren, who qualified atop the Xtreme Street field at 7.82, scored the win on a holeshot, edging Phil “Corndog” Smith, 7.90 to 7.87. LSX Shootout: Same day coverage from Indianapolis on LSXTV. It was Mark Carlyle that stole the headlines with his incredible 6.99 in the LSX Drag Radial semifinal at nearly 4 a.m. Sunday morning, but it was Mike Brown that truly stole one in the final, catching an understandably sleepy Carlyle napping at the tree, a 7.19 overcoming a much quicker 7.09. In the All Motor class, Judson Massingill kept his stronghold on the class alive with a wire-to-wire win over Greg Delaney.
Shakedown Nationals: Same day coverage from Englishtown. Despite a timing system malfunction that set back Saturday’s qualifying program, the 10th annual Shakedown Nationals in Englishtown did not disappoint. In Pro Modified, newly crowned PMRA champ Eric Latino drove to victory circle with a 6.01 defeat of Dwayne Wolfe. Florida racer Rob Wells did likewise in Outlaw 10.5, outlasting a stout field that included a new world record 4.02 elapsed time by Tim Lynch to score a 4.15-second winner in the final. Feared small tire racer Scotty G. won out in Limited Street, downing Ray Boyer Jr. by a 4.60 to 4.69 count. The X275 final, between Sean Ashe and Rich Bruder, was called due to time constraints and the two foes split the event purse. Several other categories had to be called prior to the final to meet the evening curfew.
NHRA Pacific SPORTSNationals: The JEG’S Pacific SPORTSNationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway brought out nearly 400 west coast racers for the final sportsman national event of the season. On Sunday, it was Alan Ellis that led the list of winners with his Competition Eliminator triumph over Dean Carter. Joining him was Super Stock winner Gregg Luneack, Stock winner Leo Glasbrenner, and a host of other worthy champions. For more from Las Vegas, visit NHRA.com.
NHRA Division 2: Michael Hardee scored in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Lucas Oil Series meet in Reynolds, Ga. over the weekend, edging out Glen Treadwell with an 8.45 blast, more than six-tenths under the E/SM index. Casey Spradlin overcame a holeshot advantage by Ken Wells in the Top Dragster final, and John Taylor scored a dead-on 7.55 run in the final in Top Sportsman to secure the event crown. NHRA Division 4: The Royal Purple Raceway in Houston hosted the final stop on the South Central division schedule, where Archie Fruge put together a nearly unbeatable .009 package in the Super Comp final to turn back Jeff Lopez. In Super Gas, Tommy Phillips broke out by less then opponent Lopez, who came up 0-2 in his attempt at a double, 9.894 to 9.893. In Super Stock, P.B. Candies took his Cobra Jet Mustang to victory lane in unbelievable fashion as he spun the tires and cut a .217 light while David Buckner charged to the finish stripe and broke out.
