Dragzine Race Report: PDRA U.S. Drags, NHRA At Sonoma

MUSI, SNIDER, GOFORTH LEAD WINNERS AT PDRA U.S. DRAGS

23-year old, second-generation racer Lizzy Musi scored her first professional class victory on Saturday evening at the U.S. Drags at the Virginia International Raceway, joining Brandon Snider (Pro Extreme), Cary Goforth (Extreme Pro Stock), Kevin Rivenbark (Pro Boost), and a host of others as champions.


PDRA U.S. Drags

After being disappointed in the final round at the PDRA’s most recent event in Michigan, second-generation racer Lizzy Musi finally put it all together in Virginia Saturday evening, racing to victory in Pro Nitrous after qualifying No. 1 over a record field of 32 nitrous competitors. Musi ran 3.88 in the final to oust the previously-undefeated Jason Harris in the final. In Pro Extreme, Brandon Snider downed Tommy D’Aprile in the final, 3.56 to a 3.60, while Kevin Rivenbark bested Joe Baker in Pro Boost. Cary Goforth took Extreme Pro Stock honors, and Billy Vose took out Eric McKinney in Pro Extreme Motorcycle, 4.11 to a 4.15

NHRA Sonoma Nationals

Courtney Force became the winningest female Funny Car driver of all-time on Sunday at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at the Sonoma Raceway in California, defeating her father, John Force, in the final round, 4.25 to 4.40. The Top Fuel final, likewise, was an affair between a pair of teammates, as Khalid alBalooshi defeated Shawn Langdon, 3.91 to 4.00, for his second victory of the season. In Pro Stock, Jason Line bested V. Gaines by a 6.54 to 6.56 count, while Eddie Krawiec used a stellar 6.85 in the final to oust Jerry Savoie, who fouled out on the starting line.

NHRA Division 5

Bruno Massel collected the Competition Eliminator Wally at the NHRA West Central division Lucas Oil Series event at the Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas, simply taking the green for the win when opponent Clark Smiley was unable to make the bell. In Super Stock, Jared Swinehart put an .018 light on A.J. Patterson and was never headed for the win. Austin Williams did likewise in Stock, bettering Duane Dickens on both ends of the racetrack.
