 Final Results

PTC Radial vs. the World

We made it through four rounds in Radial vs the World before running up against the curfew at 11 PM Sunday night. With so much rain and no cars going down the track on Saturday the staff did a terrific job of getting the track back to racing condition. The final round completed saw the quickest side by side pass in drag radial history with Bad 9er Kyle Huettel earning the win over Jason Enos who raced for the first time on a radial tire here at Lights Out IV. I believe Huettel also reset his own record with his 4.214 @ 177.28 on that run. Look for Enos to be a player in the class as the Victory Racecraft team is very pleased with their performance at this event.

Brad Edwards also had his new personal best 4.284 @ 183 in his round 4 match with Frank Soldridge who slowed to a 4.53 @ 153 trailing smoke through the lights.
Arnold, Missouri racer Mark Woodruff had a good run at Lights Out IV qualifying 11th with his Sonny's powered Corvette. His best run in eliminations was a 4.354 @ 182 in a round three match with "The" Kevin Mullins who was sporting his new car this weekend, he left .009 to early in the loss in what was a great side by side run never the less putting up his best run of the weekend 4.342 @ 187 MPH.

Holley/NOS/Monte Smith Outlaw Drag Radial

Tony Ridenour was put into the Outlaw Drag Radial field via the random draw after hurting a head gasket testing prior to qualifying, also having to replace a couple of lifters. He sat 28th on the ladder and came out swinging with a 4.428 @ 178 in round one. He got faster every round meeting up with Thrillbilly Shane Stack in the final who had a personal best 4.359 @ 185 in the semi final over Jason Rueckert. Ridenour took the advantage at the start and they were side by side all the way down as both racers had identical 4.379's with the Ridenour Rocket coming out on top. Tony runs a Fast Forward Race Engines (Troy Pirez Jr. and Joe Irwin) big block chevy with twin Precision 94's reduced to 88, Proformance Transmissions two speed 4oo trans with a PTC converter.
In contrast to Ridenour, Shane Stack had a mostly uneventful weekend as the car performed flawlessly requiring only cool down between runs after qualifying number two in class with a 4.439 @ 177. Sponsors include R & R Speed and Machine, PTC Transmission, VP and Mickey Thompson with Chassis work by Chris Terry. Stack runs reduced 91 mm turbos.

David Demarco put the Victory Racecraft Buick on the Outlaw 10.5 pole and ran well on a round one single with a 4.314 @ 177 MPH. All in all a great weekend for the team as top qualifier, a final round appearance and record setting performance while testing in NMCA 10.5 trim.

Precision Turbo/MacFab Beadlocks Outlaw 275

Sean Ashe qualified tenth in Outlaw 275 and made it to the final to face Marty Stinnett but ran into the curfew so could not complete the final. The sheet is incorrect about the information as round 4 had 5 cars left giving Ashe the bye to the finals. the listed final is actually the semi between Stinnett and Rogers. The round three match with number one qualifier Phil Hines was epic with Ashe getting the hole shot win as Hines set low ET of the event with a 4.405 @ 168 MPH.
Outlaw 275 number two qualifier Marty Stinnett is a former class champion here at last years No Mercy III event. He had high mile per hour with the Burns Racing Engines twin turbo Cobra in round four against Paul Naquin running a 4.443 @ 169.34 moving on to take out Eddie Rogers with a 4.464 @ 168.72 before the race was called. Bryan Marrow put his Procharged 79 Camaro on top of Leaf Spring with a clean 4.627 @ 159.34 MPH. His round one opponent was DQ'd and Marrow went on to the final getting by Chris Bryant in round two, then facing off with Ron Rhodes small block nitrous 1968 Camaro getting the win as Rhodes spun and slowed to a 5.17 @ 111. In the final it would be Marrow who lost traction early in the run allowing Michalak to get by.

We are still in a holding pattern this morning as the wet weather edges past us here in Cecil, Georgia. We did receive word this morning that we will run the race through to the finals, we are not cancelling the race if it takes three more days to get it done. Mother nature has delayed us but will not stop the radial revolution. We will be here providing updates, news from the pits and information on various teams here this weekend.

A special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels for their support of our year-long same day race coverage.

Braxton Hopkins is here this weekend running Precision Turbo/ MacFab Beadlocks Outlaw 275. The 1999 Mustang is a father and son project running a 572 cubic inch big block Chevy with Edelbrock Nitrous making 1577 horsepower dyno tested by Pat Musi. Tim Mcamis Performance is sporting a new wrap on this display rig for 2013. This is the debut event for the new look.

Applied Racing Components has a new bottle bracket that incorporates a heater. The billet bracket is light weight and comes with AC, or AC/DC plugs to use 110 volt power in the pits, still keeping the ability to touch up the temp in the staging lanes when needed.
JW Performance Transmissions has developed a new product for TH 350 transmissions. This billet tail shaft housing is developed for the circle track market but is welcome for drag racing as well. It incorporates a double snap ring system and roller bearing. The outer snap ring keeps the seal in place. Also under development is a shorter TH 400 tail housing which allows racers to swap from a powerglide to a TH 400 and use the same driveshaft. With the recent pupularity of people using 2 speed TH 400 transmission this is a needed part for sure that will allow racers to test between the two and save them the hassle and money on a second drive shaft.
UPR has some new GM parts for 2013 for G bodies and F bodies. The company has been making Mustang parts for a few years now and is moving into the GM market. They will be displaying at the 2013 NMCA debut in Bradenton and Indy later this year.

I spoke with Kenny Ferrell from CFM, Carbon Fiber Manufacturing in the midway. He has been in business since 1993 making carbon pro mod bodies and experimental airplane parts. This new pro stock style scoop is just (2.2 pounds). They will have some G body parts coming for 2013. Tim and Joe Ballard have a dealership in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
Jacob Garry is here with his father crewing with Outlaw 275 racer Billy "Ticket Taker" Driscoll. He was having fun in the rain on the big wheel. We are called for the day. The weather is supposed to clear out overnight and we will be racing at 9 AM. Open Comp will get one time trial. The other index classes will go right into round one eliminations. Night Pit Notes

Dr. Ford and crew got the engine buttoned back up and were installing the headers when I left their pit tonight. It was a long wet day for Team Plimpton but they are ready to run now.
Tommy is welding the ring on a set of wheels in the Mac Fab trailer. They have done many sets of wheels this weekend, gotta love same day on site service.
I stopped by the ATF pits to find Shawn Ashe and Danny getting honing their reaction times. I stepped in to try my hand at it for a few round before Jason Gatlin pulled me aside to shoot some new products.
Jason has developed a pressure relief valve to help control the pressure inside the converter. With today's converter technology many racers have had issues controlling internal transmission pressures. This is the second generation valve which has been under development for about six months and is in use on several cars this weekend.
Image/s missing.
Jason is also developing TH 400 billet valve bodies for various applications. This is the first prototype with Shawn set to test a working model at the teams next outlaw event. The new design will feature an internal solenoid in an effort to improve the release time on the TH 400 trans brake.

ATF will also be marketing these supercharger bells designed to inprove the efficiancy or the various units on the market. This is the F1-R version.
Chad Opaleski dropped a valve seat on his qualifying attempt in Outlaw Drag Radial. Dan Neumann and Rob Zarcone drove the head to Nelson Competition in Pinellas Park, Florida to get it fixed up. They were on their way back and should have got to the track around midnight. Luckily for them and several other teams the rain delay has allowed them to make repairs, lets hope mother nature shines on us to get the race in as well.

Once the rain let off enough Donald Long had the hospitality up and cooking for the racers and whoever else was on hand to grab some complimentary food.

Taylor Lastor has his new ride running well after qualifying third in X275 with a 4.687 @154.95.
Kyle Huttel came out hard with his Fulton powered 2002 Camaro running a 4.25 @ 168 in PTC Radial vs the World. The .25 is on a track record pace if he backs it up, which I have no doubt will happen. The only question is is he can reset the radial tire record lower than his previous 4.21 from Holly Springs.
Mac Fab Outlaw 275 had 33 cars attempt to qualify today in the early session. Phil Hines leads so far with a very nice 4.46 @ 168, just ahead of former class winner Marty Stinnett.

Dan Saitz got here just in time to make Outlaw 275 qualifying. After pulling right to the lanes from tech, he managed a 4.87 @ 149.07 off the trailer to land 17th in the field.

Brian McGee runs this Fulton nitrous big block in Outlaw Drag Radial out of Pelion, South Carolina. His 4.426 @ 170 has him number one qualifier after today's session.
Francis Johnson was another racer on the road and trying to get here for today's session. He did and ran a personal best 4.49 @ 161 putting his Samakow Racing Engines Firebird fourth in Outlaw Radial.

David DeMarco is well ahead of the Carcraft Outlaw 10.5 class with a 4.34 @ 183 in his Victory Racecraft tNMCA legal twin turbo Buick. he is sporting new graphics this weekend in his first race of 2013. DeMarco is looking to hurt some feelings this year in NMCA, and he is doing pretty good so far here facing off with various Outlaw style cars.
Chris Lancaster is back this year for Billet Atomizer Ultimate Street with his beautiful single turbo mod motor powered 66 Mustang. He is nearly a tenth ahead of the class with a 5.12 @ 140 with nitrous racer Jody Voyles second so far.

Ron Rhodes hurt his little 23 degree small block Chevy after being the first to run 4.6x yesterday while testing. The team had a lot of work to get it back together after replacing a piston but did not run well in his X275 qualifying attempt. leaf Spring was a different story however and he sits fourth with a 4.711 @ 149 MPH.
