NHRA: Event recap here on DRAGZINE. Tony Schumacher celebrated Fathers Day in style in Bristol, returning to the Top Fuel winners circle with a final round rout of Brandon Bernstein, 3.98 to 4.05. John Force regained his early season points lead with a win over Tim Wilkerson, and Mike Edwards continued his stranglehold on Pro Stock with an eventful final round defeat of a red-lighting Rickie Jones. IHRA: The IHRA Nitro Jam visited a jam packed house at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, UT. On Friday night, Bruce Litton won his fourth deciding Top Fuel match-up in a row, defeating Spencer Massey with a 5.23. Mark Sanders and Brandon Johnson also collected wins. Saturdays action saw Sanders again win the Prostalgia Funny Car trophy with a 6.12 defeat of Jack Harris, while Bobby Lagana won Top Fuel and Johnny Ahton prevailed in Pro Fuel. check out IHRA.com and Drag Race Central for full results and recaps.
PSCA: Randy Walker captured the Pro Street crown at the Strip in Las Vegas, defeating Clint Hairston with an astounding 5.88 elapsed time. Rich Zehring grabbed another Outlaw 10.5 title, besting Gary Soulage, 6.82 to 7.45, and Roger Holder won Drag Radial with a 7.35 over a slowing Al Jimenez. NHRR: The sweltering heat may have taken its toll on the racers and spectators at Beech Bend Raceway Park, but the action was intense at the always popular National Hot Rod Reunion. California’s Brad Thompson added another win to his credit, beating Roger Lechtenburg with a 5.92 at 250 MPH. Peter Gallen did likewise in Nostalgia Funny Car with a final round 6.04, and Charlie Westcott won the much anticipated HEMI Challenge with an 8.51 to 8.63 rout of David Barton. ODRA: Shay Loveday got the win in Pro Modified as the Outlaw Drag Racing Association visited Hub City Dragway in Hattiesburg, MS over the weekend. Keith Szabo also garnered a win in Outlaw 10.5, besting Texas’ Kevin Cram in the final, and Jody Voyles won Ultimate Street. For full results, visit the ODRA forums.
IHRA Division 5 Pro-Am: The IHRA’s Division 5 Thunder series visited Byron Dragway in Byron, IL this weekend. Jim Huggett and John Hochstedler won Top Dragster and Top Sportsman, respectively, on Saturday. Sundays action saw Michael Lyons with a narrow defeat of Fred Bartoli in Super Stock and Clint Blezien defeat Bobby Bishop in the Stock final. NHRA Division 5: The NHRA’s Division 5 was also in action at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO. Jim Whitely found himself in the Top Alcohol Dragster winners circle on Sunday, besting Christine Chambliss’ 6.08 with a great 5.55, while Terry Ruckman won Top Alcohol Funny Car with a close 5.86 to 5.93 count.
