Mickey Thompson Tires DragZine Race Report

r3NHRA: Dragzine’s complete report from Englishtown. Shawn Langdon scored his third win of the season in Top Fuel in Englishtown on Sunday, and he did it by defeating his Al-Anabi Racing teammate Khalid AlBalooshi in the final, 3.85 to a close 3.86. The Funny Car final was another team affair, as Matt Hagan downed Jack Beckman with 4.11 to Beckman’s 4.18, while Mike Edwards bettered Allen Johnson on both ends of the race track, a quicker-leaving 6.58 to a losing 6.64. Michael Ray became the first winner in Pro Stock Motorcycle this season other than Hector Arana Jr. by handing a final round defeat to the senior Arana. And in Pro Modified, Mike Janis made new sponsor, Valvoline, proud by driving his way into victory lane with a win over Troy Coughlin. LSX_Challenger-LogosLSX Challenge: Same day coverage from Atlanta. In a headline that’s been all too common this season, rain wiped out the conclusion of the LSX Challenge event at the Atlanta Dragway over the weekend just prior to the final rounds. Those finals will be contested at the Indianapolis event later this year. There, Drag Radial top qualifiers Anthony Manna and Mike Brown will square off for the race title, Rodney Massengale and Kevin Rounsavalle will meet in the Real Street finale, and Jud Massingill and Greg Delany will battle for the All Motor crown.

r5NHRA Division 5: Matt Harris put his D/A machine in the winners circle in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA West Central division meet at the Brainerd International Raceway when Clint Sallee left just .004-second too soon in the final round. Harris was joined by Super Stock winner Gene Mosbek, Stock champ Tim Lisson, Top Dragster’s Larry Piper, Top Sportsman winner Rich Smith, and a host of other champions. For complete results from Brainerd, log on to Drag Race Central.

r1IHRA Nitro Jam: In Friday’s Jet dragster versus Top Fuel Dragster matchup at the Pittsburgh Nitro Jam at the Pittsburgh Raceway Park, jet racer Jill Canuso got the best of nitro veteran Bruce Litton, outrunning the wheel-driven machine, 4.89 to 4.99. Mike McIntire and Peter Gallen traded Prostalgia Funny Car victories on the weekend, as they faced off in the final on both days — McIntire scoring on Friday and Gallen on Saturday. Ron Maroney was the victor in Fuel Altered on Friday evening, besting Ron Hope, and Tracy Kile (Friday) and Mike Scott (Saturday) took Nitro Harley honors. For more Pittsbrugh, log on to IHRA.com.

SummitProAmAmsoilIHRA Division 1: At the IHRA Patriot Division 1 event in Pittsburgh, Super Stock winner A.H. Adkins and opponent Michael Beard were even out of the gate, but Adkins was closer to the dial to score the win. Rob Garvey won in Stock when Stephen McGrath left too soon, and Steve Mikus was better on both ends of the racetrack in the Quick Rod final to oust Alan O’Brien. Others winners included Jacob Elrod, Keith Mayers, Mark Payne, and Chris Cadle. Click over to Drag Race Central for complete race results.

SummitProAmAmsoilIHRA Division 9: Rick Mann and Brett Nesbitt were dead-even out of the gate with .008 reaction times in the Top Dragster finale, but a scant .003 breakout by Nesbitt handed the win to Mann at the IHRA Raiders Division 9 event at the Mooresville Dragway in North Carolina on Sunday. Nesbitt was joined by Top Sportsman winner Jeff Rudisill, who was second off the line but better at the stripe to down Stacey Hall in the final. Visit Drag Race Central for complete results from Mooresville.
