NHRA: Race Recap from Epping. In their first final round matchup, Courtney Force defeated her legendary father, John, in the Funny Car final to become the first class champion of the inaugural Auto-Plus NHRA New England Nationals in Epping, N.H. The second-generation racer was joined by Spencer Massey, who claimed his second Top Fuel victory of the season with a tire-smoking defeat of Shawn Langdon. In Pro Stock, Allen Johnson defeated Shane Gray on a holeshot, 6.64 to 6.63, for his third win of the year, and John Hall earned his first-ever national event win in Pro Stock Motorcycle when fellow first-time finalist Adam Arana went red. NHRA Division 4: In a race decided by just five inches at the stripe, Donald Thomas took his C/ED to the Competition Eliminator winners circle over Scott Parks’ front-engine dragster at the NHRA South Central division meet at the Tulsa Raceway Park on Saturday. Thomas was joined by Top Alcohol class winners and husband and wife teammates Jim and Annie Whiteley, Super Stock winner Larry Stewart – who won on opponent Jeff Town’s red-light – and Stock champ Jacob Pitt. NHRA Division 5: Phil Unruh won Top Dragster at the NHRA West Central division meet the Cordova Dragway in Illinois over the weekend, overcoming a perfect light in the final by David Harrington to score a close victory. Tom Schmidt, likewise, was nearly perfect in the Top Sportsman final, scoring a .003 reaction time and running closer to the dial for the win. IHRA Division 6: Dan Provost was better out of the gate and closer to the dial to score the Saturday Top Dragster victory at the IHRA Border Bandits Pro-Am at Canada’s NL’Akapxm Eagle Motorplex. He was joined by Top Sportsman champ Pat McNally. On day two, Trevor Ritchie was the benefactor of Andy Scheu’s foul start to claim Top Dragster, as was Top Sportsman winner Zac Clarke, as opponent Shawn LaChambre left .008-seconds to quick.
