HINES, TOBENER, REEVES TOP RECORD-BREAKING NMRA MARYLAND EVENT

Phil Hines (Street Outlaw), Bart Tobener (Renegade), and Terry “Beefcake” Reeves (Coyote Modified) led the list of NMRA series winners at the Maryland International Raceway on Sunday, closing out a weekend that saw two elapsed time barriers shattered at the always-quick racing facility.

NMRA Maryland

Cool spring conditions and an always-fast racing surface at the Maryland International Raceway set the stage for big performances during the NMRA’s annual visit over the weekend, and the Mustang and Ford contingent didn’t disappoint, as fans witnessed not only the first six-second pass in Street Outlaw history, but also the first seven-second run ever in Renegade. At the close of the weekend, it was one of those barrier-busters, Renegade’s Bart Tobener, that parlayed the big numbers into a victory, as he downed Johnny Lightning in the final with a stellar 8.02. In Street Outlaw, Phil Hines outlasted the six-second guns of Dwayne Barbaree and John Urist, ousting the many-time champion in the final by a 7.10 to 7.17 count. In the new Coyote Modified class, Terry “Beefcake” Reeves drove his 2011 Mustang past No. 1 qualifier Frank Verala for the win, and Joe Marini used a big holeshot advantage to squeak out a win in Coyote Stock over the much-quicker Darin Hendricks, 10.64 to a 10.56.

Barker claimed both races in Top Sportsman, defeating Sandy Wilkins and Robert Mandell on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, while Butner spread his wins across a pair of classes, claiming Competition Eliminator honors on Friday and adding a win in Stock on Sunday.
