Antron Brown Eyes First Winternationals Victory At Pomona With Momentum On His Side

Antron Brown has built an impressive résumé at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, but there’s still one box left unchecked. The three-time NHRA Top Fuel world champion has four career wins at the historic Southern California facility and even captured his first No. 1 qualifying position there back in 2008.

Despite that success, a Winternationals victory has eluded Brown throughout his career. Heading into the April 10–12 Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, the driver of the Matco Tools Eagle Experience Top Fuel Dragster is looking to change that, and he knows the timing couldn’t be better.

Pomona has long been considered the epicenter of NHRA drag racing, and for Brown, it represents both a place of past success and unfinished business. With favorable weather conditions expected for race weekend, teams are anticipating strong performance numbers, and Brown is ready to capitalize.

“The weather is looking good – it’s going to be cool and in the mid-70s. We have an exclusive Matco go-karting event on Thursday night. I’m looking forward to getting out there with all the distributors and the customers. See if I can show them how to turn left or right a little bit. See if I still got those skills in me to pay the bills.”

For Brown, who’s currently seventh in Top Fuel points, the Winternationals represents a chance to build early-season momentum and position himself for a championship run later in the year.

“I’m really looking forward to going out there back to the West Coast, especially since it’s the home ground stomping turf of drag racing. This is a good jump-start for us right now to go out there and qualify well, and our main focus is to go out there and try to win. If we can win out there, it’ll really set us up for the end of the year, so that’s what makes this race so important – it has a lot of stakes on it. We have a lot of guests coming out there, too, from Matco Tools, and then we also have a big group from FVP and our Hangsterfers folks. It’s going to be a fun weekend. Stay tuned, and let’s see what we can do.”

With experience, motivation, and the right conditions aligning, Brown heads into Pomona with a clear objective, finally conquer the Winternationals and set the tone for a championship-caliber year.
