The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads into its most unique spectacle of the season, and Chad Green Motorsports is bringing a storyline that’s just as compelling as the racing itself.

The father-son duo of Chad and Hunter Green will take on the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway, campaigning their 12,000-horsepower CGM Bond-Coat Funny Cars in one of the most intense formats in drag racing. For the Midland, Texas-based team, the goal is to put both cars in the show and chase another NHRA victory under the bright lights of zMax Dragway.

In a sport filled with elite organizations, Chad Green Motorsports stands alone as the only father-son team competing full-time in NHRA’s nitro ranks. That dynamic adds another layer of chemistry and pressure when the helmets go on.

“It’s always fun to race with Hunter, especially at the Funny Car level in NHRA,” said Chad Green. “He did a great job as a rookie last year against some very tough competition. And he likes the four-wide events, while some of the drivers are not thrilled with four cars side-by-side. I’ll admit it is different from the two-wide racing, and you have to have your concentration level very high, or you can be distracted at the line. We have an excellent crew led by Joe Serena and Dean Marinis, and it has already shown with the win at the Gatornationals. They are working on both cars now, and we’ll see a marked improvement in Hunter and Blake’s car, too.”

Chad Green has already validated the program’s competitiveness with a win at the NHRA Gatornationals earlier this season. That early success has positioned CGM for more success in 2026.

The team’s long-term vision is clear, build a two-car operation capable of fighting for a championship.

“We decided a while back that we want to put together a strong two-car effort and be contenders for the world championship. You can’t do this type of racing without a full-time, professional operation and we are getting very close to battling the top Funny Car teams. We had to go against a good friend in Alexis (DeJoria) and the tough John Force Racing team in the final at Gainesville, and I felt very confident entering that race after we ran well in the earlier rounds. Now, we want to keep that momentum going into the Charlotte race,” said Chad.

Hunter Green continues to evolve quickly behind the wheel of a nitro Funny Car. After winning the U.S. Nationals in Top Alcohol Dragster competition, he transitioned into Funny Car and showed flashes of competitiveness throughout his rookie 2025 season. Now, with more seat time and experience, he’s entering Charlotte with a stronger foundation.

“My dad and I enjoy the Funny Car competition and teaming up together,” said Hunter Green. “Last year was my rookie season in the nitro Funny Car, and I have learned a lot since then. The four-wide races are so unique and fun for me. So, I’m very excited about this weekend’s Charlotte race.”

Hunter’s familiarity with the four-wide format, thanks to prior appearances in Charlotte and Las Vegas, gives him a valuable edge heading into the weekend.

The NHRA 4-Wide Nationals present one of the biggest challenges in drag racing. With four cars launching simultaneously, drivers must stay locked in from the moment they stage to the finish line. There’s no margin for hesitation, especially with fewer elimination rounds and more variables in play.

“We are working hard to get into that front half of the field in qualifying. Then settle in to race in eliminations. With the four-wide format, there are only three rounds on Sunday, so you can’t make any mistakes with the car setup, or leaving the starting line. You leave too late and your day is over. I know we’ll be ready to go on Friday night for the first round of qualifying,” Hunter added.

For Chad and Hunter Green, the 4-Wide Nationals provide a chance to prove that their father-son operation can run with the best in one of the sport’s most demanding formats. With performance, preparation, and confidence aligning, the CGM duo will be one to watch when the tree drops in Charlotte.
