The bright lights of Las Vegas will be the backdrop for this weekend’s (Oct. 30-Nov. 1) Mopar NHRA Las Vegas Nationals powered by Dodge, and veteran Funny Car driver Chad Green hopes that background shines on him in the winner’s circle with his popular CGM brpoauto Ford Mustang nitro-burning machine.
Green, a two-time NHRA Funny Car event winner this year, will have his blue, orange, and white 12,000-horsepower monster tuned for a strong performance at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway against a highly competitive Funny Car division which includes six former world champions. Action begins on Friday (Oct. 30) at 2 p.m. PDT with nitro qualifying.
Green and his son, Hunter, will field two nitro Funny Cars this weekend in Las Vegas through the Chad Green Motorsports stable, and the Texas drivers have set their sights on another win in Sunday’s eliminations, which get underway at 11 a.m. PST.

“The Funny Car class has been so competitive all year, and you can’t make a single mistake on the three-day weekend,” said Green, a four-time NHRA Funny Car winner. “We had five solid runs at Dallas two weeks ago and still lost in the first round against Ron Capps, a three-time world champion. We were side-by-side just before the finish line. But we had a late engine issue. It is so hard to qualify in the top half of the 16-car field these days, and you want that for lane change in the first round.
“In recent races, there were as many as 24 cars trying to make the 16-car lineup, and you can miss the top half of the field by a thousandth of a second. It’s a tough deal. Especially when you are trying to keep a 12,000-horsepower race car’s rear tires to the ground without spinning. But I feel confident coming to Las Vegas with the bproauto Ford Mustang. We are ready for the battle.”
Green’s son, Hunter, in his second season as a professional driver in the Funny Car category with his CGM Bond-Coat Dodge//SRT Hellcat, has already defeated his dad in eliminations earlier this year, and he would love to repeat the feat this weekend at Las Vegas. Hunter is a former NHRA U.S. Nationals champion in the Top Alcohol Dragster class.
