Momentum can be a powerful force in drag racing, and right now nobody in the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown has more of it than Jonathan Allegrucci.

The points leader enters this weekend’s Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway with a chance to accomplish something that hasn’t been done in the category since Leah Pruett rattled off three consecutive victories to close the 2018 season and secure a championship. After back-to-back wins in Charlotte and Chicago, Allegrucci now has history squarely in his sights.

Driving his Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, the Scott Township, Pennsylvania native has emerged as the driver to beat through the opening three races of the 2026 Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown season. But as he prepares for Bristol, Allegrucci admits his focus extends beyond the racetrack.

A Growing Family And A Growing Win Streak

What nearly became a missed race weekend has turned into an opportunity to continue one of the hottest streaks in Factory Stock competition.

“This is by far our best racing streak we have had. This stretch has been great,” said Allegrucci. “We had a lot of things going on at home too that are good. We are only coming to Bristol because we had our baby early. We were supposed to be in the hospital this Wednesday, delivering the baby, which meant no Bristol, but he must have heard us all talking about him, and he came earlier. Everything’s good with mom and the new baby, so we are going racing.”

With family and racing both delivering memorable moments in recent weeks, Allegrucci arrives in Thunder Valley carrying confidence, but not complacency.

“I don’t know that I would call it pressure,” said Allegrucci. “You start feeling you are running well and you almost start to expect it a little. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and it took a while to get that first win. You just can’t take it for granted. If three in a row doesn’t happen, it’s okay. Hearing that when Leah did it, she also won the championship is a good sign if we could pull it off.”

The comparison to Pruett is significant. Her three-race winning streak in 2018 remains one of the benchmark performances in Factory Stock Showdown history. Matching that feat would further cement Allegrucci’s position as the championship favorite.

Mark Pawuk Ready To Play Spoiler

If anyone understands how quickly momentum can change in championship racing, it’s two-time world champion Mark Pawuk.

The defending Bristol winner returns to Thunder Valley with unfinished business. Pawuk has spent the early part of the season helping develop Dodge’s all-new 2026 Charger Drag Pak platform, a race car that represents a major departure from previous combinations.

“It has been very cool to be the first to run the new ‘26 Dodge Charger,” said Pawuk. “It’s their platform for the future. For me to be a part of that has been a real honor. We’ve had our struggles, but my team is working with the group of Dodge engineers who are working to get this thing turned around. It’s a brand new race car. It’s totally different than everything that’s run out there. It’s got a longer wheelbase and it’s a wider race car. It’s just going to take time to get it figured out. But long term I think it’s going to be a very competitive car.”

Pawuk’s history at Bristol adds another layer of intrigue. For years, success at Thunder Valley eluded the veteran racer despite numerous appearances dating back to his Pro Stock days.

That changed dramatically in 2025.

“I started racing in Bristol early in my career, and I never ran good there,” said Pawuk. “I think I got to the semifinals one time in Pro Stock. Last year Bristol was kind of a jumpstart for me. We won Bristol and Norwalk back-to-back and that got me back into the championship. I’ve always loved that place. It’s a beautiful area. I would love nothing more than to get my Dodge Charger back in the winner’s circle this weekend.”

Rule Changes Add New Twist To Bristol Battle

The competitive landscape will look slightly different this weekend thanks to a recent NHRA rules adjustment.

In an effort to maintain parity across the Factory Stock Showdown field, the NHRA Technical Department has approved additional supercharger overdrive for Dodge Charger competitors through a revised upper pulley combination. The move is designed to help balance performance among the Ford Mustang Cobra Jets, Chevrolet COPO Camaros, and Dodge Challenger and Charger Drag Pak entries.

Allegrucci believes the adjustment is a positive development for the class.

“There’s been some rule changes, but I’m not gonna lie, I think they were needed,” said Allegrucci. “We all want good close racing. It’s got to be the combination of the car, the crew and the driver all working together. I feel good heading to Bristol.”

Bigger Stakes In Thunder Valley

Adding even more incentive to the weekend is the growing Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown bounty.

Because Allegrucci has successfully defended the bounty through consecutive victories, the prize pool has now doubled to $2,000. Another victory in Bristol would push the bounty to $3,000 heading into the next event, creating an even larger target on the points leader’s back.

With a historic three-peat on the line, a new baby at home, rule changes reshaping the competition, and former champion Mark Pawuk eager to return to victory lane, the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown could deliver one of the most compelling storylines of the entire Thunder Valley Nationals weekend.
