Krista Baldwin will make an emotional return to NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series competition this weekend at the NHRA Route 66 Nationals, bringing one of drag racing’s most legendary family names back into the spotlight at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.
Baldwin’s return to Top Fuel competition is a tribute to her grandfather, Chris “The Greek” Karamesines, one of the true pioneers of NHRA nitro racing and a driver whose impact on the sport still resonates throughout the drag racing world today.
Competing with support from Red Line Oil, Composite Specialties, and Seefried Ranch, Baldwin’s dragster will carry a special signature tribute design honoring Karamesines. The commemorative livery will officially be unveiled during Friday’s first qualifying session, creating one of the most meaningful moments of the NHRA Route 66 Nationals weekend.

“This weekend means so much to me personally and professionally,” said Baldwin. “To return to Top Fuel competition while also celebrating my grandfather and everything he’s meant to the sport is incredibly special. He paved the way for generations of racers, including me, and I’m proud to honor him on our race car this weekend.”
Karamesines remains one of the most respected names in drag racing history. Known throughout the motorsports world as “The Greek,” he became one of the foundational stars of NHRA Top Fuel competition during drag racing’s formative years.
His fearless driving style, longevity, and dedication to the sport helped establish Top Fuel drag racing as one of motorsports’ most exciting attractions. This weekend’s recognition as the honorary legend of the event serves as another reminder of the lasting impact Karamesines has had on NHRA competition and the nitro community.

Baldwin’s 2026 NHRA Route 66 Nationals appearance also marks the beginning of a new working relationship with veteran crew chief Ron Douglas. Douglas brings decades of nitro experience to the operation and has spent recent weeks helping prepare the team for competition at one of NHRA’s premier facilities. His background in Top Fuel tuning and race-day management gives Baldwin additional confidence as she returns to one of drag racing’s toughest categories.
“Ron has worked tirelessly to help get this program prepared,” Baldwin said. “His experience and leadership have already made a huge impact, and I’m excited to work alongside him this weekend.”
The addition of Douglas signals Baldwin’s continued commitment to building a competitive Top Fuel operation capable of making consistent appearances on the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series tour.
The Route 66 Nationals venue adds another meaningful element to Baldwin’s return. Route 66 Raceway has hosted countless memorable moments throughout NHRA history, and the facility holds special significance for the Karamesines family legacy.
The NHRA Route 66 Nationals will mark Baldwin’s first Top Fuel appearance of the 2026 season, but the focus extends beyond simply making laps. With Chris Karamesines being honored, Baldwin returning to Top Fuel competition, and a tribute dragster hitting the track, the weekend shapes up as one of the more emotional storylines of the NHRA season.
