The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series is set for its most unique event of the season, and Spencer Hyde is bringing something special with him to zMAX Dragway. As the only four-wide national event on the NHRA schedule, the 4-Wide Nationals in Concord, North Carolina, always delivers big surprises. For the 2025 NHRA Rookie of the Year, it also presents a major opportunity off the track with a new primary sponsorship from The Caine Group debuting on his 12,000-horsepower Nitro Funny Car.
Four-wide racing changes everything, reaction times, race strategy, and situational awareness all take on new importance when four cars launch simultaneously. It’s a format that rewards adaptability, something Hyde has shown early in his professional career. Now in his second full-time season, the Canadian driver from Stratford, Ontario, continues to build momentum both on and off the track. A recent final-round appearance at the NHRA Arizona Nationals has already demonstrated that Hyde is capable of running with the best in Funny Car.
The 4-Wide Nationals offer another high-visibility stage, and Hyde is using it to showcase a growing partnership. Hyde will run a specialty wrap for The Caine Group this weekend, marking the company’s debut as a primary sponsor in NHRA Funny Car competition. The relationship began at this same event one year ago, when Hyde connected with company executives at zMAX Dragway. Over the past year, that connection has grown into a meaningful partnership.
“We met with the folks from The Caine Group during the race, and after the race, we came back to North Carolina and spent some time getting to know them,” said Hyde. “They have a lot going on in North Carolina, and they wanted to support our Funny Car team, so we worked out a deal for them to be the primary sponsor for this weekend’s 4-Wide Nationals. They have been fans of the NHRA for a while and recognize what a family-friendly sport this is, so it was a great fit.”

The company, owned by Jim and Janet Russell, carries a deeply personal connection to the sport, having been named in honor of their late son Caine, a passionate drag racing fan. That connection adds another layer of meaning to the partnership
Hyde’s sophomore season in the NHRA Funny Car ranks is shaping up to be a critical step forward. As the reigning Rookie of the Year and the only full-time Funny Car driver representing Canada, Hyde continues to expand his visibility and value to sponsors. The addition of The Caine Group and Outlaw Light Beer to the Head Contractors and Engineers-backed program highlights that growth.
“This season is off to a good start on the track, and we are looking forward to more exciting announcements off the track,” Hyde said. “We are constantly talking with people and companies about the benefits of the NHRA. We both run family-owned businesses, and this was a win-win for both groups.
“Jim is a great team owner and crew chief, so this Funny Car is going to go rounds, and we want to make sure we are giving our marketing partners both old and new the best bang for their buck.”
As Hyde rolls into Charlotte, the combination of performance momentum, a new primary sponsor, and the unique format of the 4-Wide Nationals creates a compelling storyline. With a competitive car, a growing list of partners, and increasing confidence behind the wheel, Hyde is positioning himself to pick up another big win very soon.
