There is one track that should be on every drag racing fan’s bucket list, it’s Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. The Bader family, who own Summit Motorsports Park, roll out the extra nice red carpet when the NHRA comes to town for its national event. You can talk to any of the NHRA pro teams and they’ll all tell you the same thing, they love coming to this event each year.
I’m lucky that Summit Motorsports Park is just a two-hour drive from my house. I get to come to the track multiple times per year to not only cover awesome events like Night Under Fire, but I also get to race here in one of Dragzine’s project cars. The second you roll through the gate as a racer or spectator, the staff at Summit Motorsports Park treats you like family. It just makes the experience at the track that much better.
The NHRA national event here also has its own vibe compared to other races. You feel like you’ve been transported to a horsepower amusement park that’s filled with the smell of nitro, and the sounds of roaring engines. Heck, even the food you can score has that awesome amusement park taste, and then there’s the Velvet ice cream….
I got to spend a couple of days at the race this year, and even with a lengthy rain delay on Saturday, I had a great time. There’s something cool about getting to wander around an NHRA national event and just capture all of the cool sights on display. The real world just ceases to exist when you walk through the gate, and you’re transported to this magical place where you get to have a carefree good time.
So, please enjoy this gallery that shows you what I got to see at the 2024 NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.
