WILLIAMSON, KRABILL CAPTURE MARCH MEET NITRO VICTORIES
Rick Williamson (Nostalgia Top Fuel) and Kris Krabill (Nostalgia Funny Car) emerged as winners of the fabled March Meet at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield on Sunday.
Bakersfield March Meet
Rick Williamson claimed Nostalgia Top Fuel honors to headline the winners circle at the annual March Meet in Bakersfield, California on Sunday, downing Adam Sorokin with a great 5.57 in the final round. In Nostalgia Funny Car, Kris Krabill and Steven Densham, the Nos. 2 and 1 qualifiers, respectively, squared off in the final round, where Krabill stormed to the win with a stout 5.58 to a right-there 5.64. And in AA/Fuel Altered, Roger Lechtenberg just edged out Dan Hix, a 6.09 defeating a 6.13 after Hix took a sizable .023-second advantage at the tree.

NMRA Spring Break Shootout
No. 1 qualifier Dwayne Barbaree ran an off-pace 5.14 in the final round of Street Outlaw at the season-opening Spring Break Shootout at the Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida on Sunday, but it was all he needed to outpace Vince Palazzolo’s 6.02 for the win. In Renegade, Alton Clements downed Frank Varela in the final round, 7.64 to a 7.78, and Johnny Lightning upset Coyote Modified top qualifier Joe Guertin in the final round with an 8.01 to a slowing 13.34.

IHRA Nitro Nationals
Shawn Bowen collected the first Nitro Funny Car title of the 2016 season at the IHRA Nitro Nationals at the Orlando Speed World Dragway, defeating Mike McIntire Jr. in the final round. Earlier in the weekend, Funny Car racer Jason Rupert broke the class’ national record, going a 5.559 at 261.93 mph. In Pro Stock, reigning series champion Cary Goforth defeated John Pluchino with a 6.35, while Adam Flamholc claimed Pro Mod honors with a 5.88 in the final opposite of Jerico Balduf.

Defending event champion Joey Severance kicked off the NHRA Pacific division schedule in Phoenix with a win on Sunday in Top Alcohol Dragster. Severance drove from the No. 2 qualifying position to down top qualifier Chris Demke in the money round, a 6.87 to an equally off-pace 6.93. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Doug Gordon ousted Shane Westerfield, 5.53 to a 5.62, and Alan Ellis defeated Jeff Lane for the Competition Eliminator title with a final round 6.56.
