MILLS, ULSCH, RHODES, GREATHOUSE LEAD WINNERS AT YELLOW BULLET NATS
DeWayne Mills scored a dominating win in Outlaw Drag Radial at the annual Yellow Bullet Nationals on Sunday evening to headline the winners circle festivities, which also featured Chuck Ulsch (Outlaw 10.5), Ron Rhodes (275 Drag Radial), and Joel Greathouse (Ultra 275).
Yellow Bullet Nationals
DeWayne Mills ran the table in Outlaw Drag Radial in his ‘Golden Gorilla’ Camaro at the Yellow Bullet Nationals at the Cecil County Dragway in Maryland over the holiday weekend, as he qualified No. 1 and defeated Rick Thornton in the final round with the second quickest pass in radial racing history, a 3.98 at 202 mph. In Outlaw 10.5, Chuck Ulsch powered his nasty new C7 Corvette to victory over Mo Hall, 4.09 to a slowing 6.92, while local hitter Ron Rhodes came out on the winning end of an incredible 275 Drag Radial finale between he and Jamie Stanton, 4.482 to a right-there 4.488. In Ultra 275, Joel Greathouse continued his dominance with a 4.87-second defeat of Shawn Pevlor, and John Fisher claimed the Outlaw Big Tire title from the No. 1 spot, running 4.29 in the final.

NHRA U.S. Nationals
For the second year in a row, history was made at the sport’s most prestigious drag race as all four professional class champions — and five if you include Pro Modified — won the fabled U.S. Nationals for the first time in their careers. The big story was Jack Beckman, who qualified No. 1 and dominated the Traxxas Shootout on Sunday before marching through eliminations on Labor Day to oust Robert Hight for the second time in as many days for the double-up victory. In Top Fuel, part-timer Morgan Lucas, whose name graces the Lucas Oil Raceway strip, charged to victory over Dave Connolly, giving him his first Indy win as a professional. Erica Enders did likewise in Pro Stock, defeating teammate Drew Skillman, while Jerry Savoie downed Chip Ellis in the two-wheeled division. And in Pro Mod, Rick Snaveley scored his first-ever series win at the biggest one of them all, outlasting the quickest field in the class’ history.
